At the Game Developers Choice Awards 2025, Life Is Strange: Double Exposure received a heartfelt recognition in the Social Impact category. Unfortunately, due to a series of layoffs following the sequel’s underperformance in sales, none of the team from Deck Nine Games attended to accept this well-deserved honor.
It’s quite disheartening to see how tough the video game industry has become over time, as highlighted by Elizabeth Ballou’s post on Bluesky: “It’s ironic that no one was there to collect the GDCA award we won because we were all let go, chuckle. A few of us are at GDC, but we didn’t even know we were nominated, so nobody was prepared to receive any awards.
Backstage at the event, Game File’s Stephen Totilo observed: “Most winners proudly displayed their awards, but Life is Strange, which received the Social Impact accolade, had no one present to collect it. Later, it was confirmed that members of the development team eventually claimed the prize, but it was interesting to note that the trophy was retrieved offstage and without fanfare.
