Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is 30 Percent Longer Than Like a Dragon Gaiden

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent navigating the vast landscapes of Yakuza games, I eagerly await the release of Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. Though it may not be as expansive as some previous installments, the 30% increase in playtime compared to Like a Dragon Gaiden is certainly music to my ears.

The “Like a Dragon” (previously known as “Yakuza”) series is renowned for offering large-scale games filled with rich content. However, the upcoming spinoff titled “Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii” will naturally not offer the same level of expansiveness compared to a game like “Infinite Wealth”. Despite being a smaller-scale game, as confirmed by developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, it promises a more extended playtime experience than its predecessor, 2023’s “Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name”.

In an interview with Automaton Media, RGG Studio’s director Masayoshi Yokoyama shared that the upcoming game “Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii” will be approximately 30% longer than “Like a Dragon Gaiden”. Yokoyama explained that this extended length wasn’t intentionally planned, but rather a result of the storyline and its requirements, stating, “The development team found that the volume ‘naturally’ increased due to the story.

Yokoyama mentioned that the map in the game is extensive with numerous locations to explore, and there are yet-unrevealed aspects. He further explained that the size of the content has grown on its own. Prior to disclosing the game’s longer playtime, he hinted that this extended runtime would correspond to the game’s price, which will be $10 more than the original release price for Like a Dragon Gaiden.

Based on How Long To Beat data for “Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name,” its main story lasts approximately 12 to 13 hours. With additional side quests, the game could extend up to around 20 hours. Therefore, assuming similar pacing, “Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii” might take between 15 to 25 hours to complete, according to what Yokoyama suggests.

The game titled “Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii” is set to be released on February 21st, and it will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Personal Computers.
