Lilo & Stitch Reclaims Streaming Crown as Live-Action Remake Soars in Theaters!

Approximately 23 years after its debut, “Lilo & Stitch” has claimed the number one spot on streaming charts this week. The original 2002 animated film is seeing a significant revival, with the new live-action adaptation leading the box office. Flix Patrol reports that the entire franchise is reaping benefits from this resurgence. Specifically, “Lilo & Stitch” (2002) dominates Disney+ this week, while four spinoffs and sequels also appear in the top 10. The only title absent from the list is “Lilo & Stitch: The Series,” which doesn’t rank among the top 10 TV shows on the platform. The surge in viewership could be due to fans comparing the two versions of this tale, as well as younger viewers seeking more content, among other contributing factors.

2025’s release of Lilo & Stitch shattered theater screens on Friday, outperforming predictions during its inaugural weekend. This film surpassed a box office record for Memorial Day weekend sales that had stood strong for more than a decade. However, the reviews of this movie have been diverse, with many critics and fans expressing dissatisfaction over alterations in the plot and characters. It’s no wonder that some viewers left the theater to rewatch the original, refreshing their memories of the story and making comparisons.

This week, Lilo & Stitch leads the Disney+ movie rankings, with Lilo & Stitch: A Special Look, a sneak peek offered at home, in second place. Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch has a Glitch holds third position, and Stitch! The Movie takes fifth spot. Lastly, Leroy & Stitch rounds out the top 8 movies on Disney+ this week.

The original movie “Lilo & Stitch” wasn’t followed by a sequel in theaters or critically-acclaimed order. Instead, it was swiftly succeeded by “Stitch! The Movie“, which was released directly on home video in VHS and DVD format. This movie also marked the start of the “Lilo & Stitch: The Series”, which aired on ABC and Disney Channel from 2003 to 2006. Now, you can stream this series on Disney+, as it consists of 65 episodes – making it an ideal choice for young fans who are about to embark on their summer vacation.

The TV show reached its final chapter in the movie titled “Leroy & Stitch,” which aired on television to wrap up the storyline. Simultaneously, “Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch has a Glitch” was also released as a direct-to-video sequel. In terms of timeline, it fell between “Lilo & Stitch” and “Stitch! The Movie,” which means it didn’t disrupt the broader storyline.

Lilo & Stitch (2025) is in theaters now, while the rest of the franchise can be found on Disney+.
