Liquid Swords, a game studio launched by former Avalanche Studios COO and co-founder Christofer Sundberg, has been affected by job cuts. This information was shared via their official website, where they mentioned that these layoffs were taken as part of an initiative to “reduce operational size”.
In the article, the studio clarifies that the layoffs are aimed at securing Liquid Swords’ future viability. Despite this, work continues on the initial, as-yet-unnamed project they’re developing for Liquid Swords.
In a statement, Sundberg expressed his commitment to delivering success and pioneering a groundbreaking game development studio using a compact, specialized team and a balanced work environment, ensuring sustainability for both employees and shareholders.
Although we made significant progress, changing market trends hindered us from reaching our goals within the set timeframe. Consequently, we find ourselves compelled to bid farewell to valuable team members who have been pivotal in our journey. This decision is painful, but we are steadfast in our mission and will persist in developing our intellectual property and our initial game with a focused group of colleagues.
In simpler terms, Liquid Swords hasn’t specified exactly how many employees or which departments within their studios will be impacted by these layoffs. But they are committed to streamlining the game development process.
Though the working title for the game developed by Liquid Studios remains unknown, they previously released a couple of sneak peeks back in October, offering a glimpse into its visuals. The images suggest an open-world setting with a modern backdrop. Moreover, the quality of these previews was notably high. It’s been mentioned that Liquid Studios’ debut game will focus heavily on narrative.
Established in 2020, Liquid Swords Studio is a fresh face in the industry, but don’t let its youthfulness fool you. Situated in Sweden, this studio boasts experienced industry veterans on its team. These seasoned professionals have contributed to well-known franchises such as Battlefield, Minecraft, PayDay, Grand Theft Auto, and Just Cause in the past.
