star Lisa Kudrow opens up about her “disappointing” cinematic experience with John Travolta.
During an engaging conversation with fellow Hollywood legend Posey Parker, Kudrow reminisced about her collaboration with romantic comedy pioneer Nora Ephron during the 90s and early 2000s. “I worked on Hanging Up, which she co-wrote with [her sister] Delia. Diane Keaton directed it. We enjoyed delicious meals every day thanks to Nora’s presence. Then I starred in another film that Nora directed, and John Travolta was also part of the cast,” Kudrow explained, noting the movie Lucky Numbers. “Oh, I was ‘in it’? That’s how it went? It was actually a John Travolta film, and I happened to be in it… Unfortunately, this one didn’t meet expectations.
In the movie titled “Lucky Numbers,” directed by Nora Ephron from a script by Adam Resnick, the lead role of Russ Richards, a celebrated weatherman in Pennsylvania, was played by John Travolta. Beneath his fame, Russ was struggling financially and found himself on the brink of insolvency. This predicament provided an opportunity for an old acquaintance to persuade him into committing insurance fraud as a solution. However, their scheme unravels, causing Russ further financial trouble and attracting the attention of a skilled hitman. To remedy this, Russ, portrayed by Lisa Kudrow as his girlfriend Crystal, devises a plan to swindle the state lottery. Although they manage to pull it off, their actions only exacerbate the situation as events start spinning out of control.
Lucky Numbers Bombed Despite Strong Cast and Revered Director
Lucky Numbers boasted an impressive lineup of big-name actors such as Ed O’Neill, Michael Rapaport, Bill Pullman, Rim Roth, Maria Bamford, Colin Mochrie, Daryl Mitchell, Richard Schiff, and Michael Moore. Despite this stellar cast, the movie underperformed at the box office and failed to make a significant impact financially. During its initial run in cinemas, Lucky Numbers managed to bring in only around $11 million out of its $63 million budget. The film was also met with harsh criticism from critics, earning it a dismal 23% “Fresh” score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on nearly 100 reviews.
A comedy-horror movie titled “The Parenting”, produced by HBO Max and released on March 13, is the focus here. Craig Johnson directs this film from a screenplay penned by Kent Sublette. The main characters are Nik Dodani and Brandon Flynn, portraying Rohan and Josh, a young gay couple whose peaceful weekend getaway with their parents takes an eerie turn due to the resurfacing of an ancient evil. Critics had mixed reactions upon its premiere, but audiences seemed to appreciate it more. As of now, “The Parenting” has a 47% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, while its user-generated score, known as the “Popcornmeter”, stands at 87%, aggregated from over 500 user reviews.
