As a dedicated gamer, I can’t forget the magical experience that was LittleBigPlanet on my PS3. This game, with its unique ragdoll physics, won numerous accolades during the PS3 era and even spawned multiple spin-offs and two sequels. It’s been quite some time since Media Molecule, the creators of this masterpiece, released something new – their last game, Dreams, dropped in 2020. But fear not, fellow enthusiasts! It’s been over a decade since we had a new LittleBigPlanet installment, but the studio is still kicking and new job listings hint that a release date for their next game might be just around the corner.
After unveiling their game “Dreams”, Media Molecule hasn’t disclosed much about their upcoming project, although they did confirm in 2023 that a new game is underway for the PS5 console. While leaks and rumors have occasionally surfaced, little else about the game has been unveiled. This leaves fans eagerly waiting to learn more, which is why they often keep an eye on the studio. Recently, a detail from Media Molecule’s job postings has sparked excitement among “LittleBigPlanet” followers, hinting at potential insights into their next game.
Media Molecule job postings may indicate deadline/launch of next game to late 2026 or early 2027.

According to posts in the r/GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit, job listings at Media Molecule may provide hints about their current work. User @Careless_Man3 notes that most of the contracts end in or around January 2027. This might suggest a project wrapping up around that time, implying we could expect a new game from Media Molecule towards the end of 2026 or early 2027.
It’s important to note that the duration of contracts, typically ranging from 12-18 months, does not automatically imply anything about the specific project employees are engaged in. These contracts often represent a designated task with a fixed timeframe, and they might be extended if both parties agree to continue. Therefore, simply because these jobs are scheduled to terminate on a particular date doesn’t necessarily mean that the associated game project is nearing completion.
Despite our limited knowledge about the next game from the LittleBigPlanet developers, it’s intriguing to observe them advertising new positions for their ongoing work.
What We Know About Media Molecule’s Next Game
It’s uncertain what game comes next, but there’s a strong desire among fans for another installment or extension in the world of LittleBigPlanet. However, given their work on projects like Dreams, it seems Media Molecule might not solely focus on creating more Sackboy adventures.
The studio has been deeply engaged in creating its upcoming game since as early as 2023, meaning the project has been under development for around two years now. In an interview with MinnMax last year, one of the co-founders, Mark Healey, disclosed that Media Molecule was working on a new intellectual property (IP). This information suggests that whatever is forthcoming will not be LittleBigPlanet 4. Moreover, Healy hinted that this upcoming game will be more conventional compared to Dreams, which served as a creative platform for players rather than a typical video game progression loop.
After this, Healey didn’t reveal much about Media Molecule’s upcoming venture, mainly because he left the company in 2023 to explore other opportunities. This departure left some gamers concerned about the studio’s future, but it appears that Media Molecule continues to develop its next project and is currently hiring a number of employees to assist with the work.
At this moment, what’s clear is that the studio continues to develop its upcoming game and is currently recruiting for different positions. It remains uncertain if the contract expiration dates in January 2027 will lead to a release date for the new project; we can only speculate and wait for further updates.
