The iconic big map from the beginning of the Call of Duty: Warzone free-to-play battle royale craze has made a comeback, five years since it was first released.
Instead of simply transferring the original map from Warzone 1 to Warzone 2.0, Raven Software, the development team for Call of Duty: Warzone, chose a different approach.
Rather than making changes, the team decided to construct a new map for Warzone 2.0 while maintaining its classic design, and fine-tuned its gameplay mechanics to resemble the excitement that was present during the initial release of the original Warzone. This update aimed to reintroduce beloved Operators and weapons from the earlier version of Warzone.
It’s not surprising at all that the Kilo weapon has ruled supreme in Black Ops 6 multiplayer and the reintroduction of Verdansk. However, when I inquired Raven Software about their preferred loadout setups, surprisingly, the Kilo was left off the list.
Pete Actipis, who is the game director for Call of Duty: Warzone at Raven, generously provided two preferred loadouts for starting in Verdansk.
Actipis’ initial setup offers a perfect match for a covert sniper, featuring a versatile team. The Swat 5.56 Grau functions effectively in mid-range combat, and the addition of a suppressor ensures that the player’s whereabouts remain hidden when taking down enemies or eliminating them from afar without giving away their position.
The vertical handgrip aids in managing the SWAT weapon’s recoil, and the longer magazine ensures you can continue engaging without needing to expose yourself by reloading while seeking cover.
In the meantime, the High-Definition Rewind (HDR) will be able to eliminate enemies from a variety of distances. Once more, the monolithic silencer will assist in maintaining concealment, while the additional accessories are designed for increased range and improved stability.
Find a nice, protected sniper nest, and wait for victory to come to you.

In a second setup designed by Raven, the focus shifts towards close combat and medium-distance battles, featuring the freshly launched CR-56 AMAX as the main weapon, joining other beloved weapons that fans adore.
Equipped with a 3x magnification and a sturdy construction, the CR-56 AMAX is an excellent choice for middle-distance battles. It provides players the necessary power to eliminate oncoming opponents from a safe distance, eliminating the need to get too close.
If an adversary gets dangerously near, quickly switching to the SAUG provides the burst of rapid-fire submachine gun firepower required to eliminate them before they can react or comprehend the attack.

It’s worth mentioning that in the loadout configurations provided by Raven, both sets necessitate the use of two primary weapons due to the Overkill wildcard. While Warzone permits players to carry two primaries naturally when gathering loot from the ground, custom multiplayer loadouts require the use of a Wildcard, implying they share the same restriction.
In other words, if a player aims to compete effectively with a personalized weapon setup, they essentially need to utilize perks and wildcards such as Overkill to ensure parity with those who rely on finding weapons on the battlefield.
Incorporating elements that cater to multiple players presents an exclusive hurdle when designing for Warzone, since gamers anticipate a smooth and unified experience across both game modes in terms of features and performance.
Blending yesteryear’s loadouts with today’s movement mechanics
Raven Software has definitely embraced the nostalgia for Verdansk’s comeback in Warzone, making substantial adjustments to revert several gameplay changes that were introduced with Warzone 2.0’s launch. However, not all aspects of the integration between Black Ops Cold War and Warzone have been reversed.
In the world of Warzone, the innovative movement system called Omnimovement, first introduced in Black Ops 6, continues to play a crucial role in its development. As preparations for Verdansk progress, Raven Software has been tweaking the speed of movement and other aspects related to Omnimovement to ensure a seamless experience.

Actipis stated, “The addition of Omnimovement to Call of Duty: Warzone has significantly enhanced player control over movement, making navigation smoother across all game modes. Originally developed for multiplayer, our aim now is to refine and optimize customized movement for the unique, life-limited format of Battle Royale. This will not only elevate the original experience but also align with the strategic depth and pace that characterizes large-scale experiences like Verdansk.
To achieve a satisfying gameplay experience, we’re adjusting aspects such as movement pace, omni-sprint capabilities, vehicle stability, and disabling redeploy drones. Our goal is to find the perfect equilibrium between enhanced mobility options and the tactical play style that Call of Duty: Warzone fans are accustomed to, ensuring they can enjoy the advantages of faster movement while still embracing their preferred strategic gameplay.

As I watch the dynamic landscape unfold within the realm of Call of Duty: Warzone, it’s evident that Raven Software is drawing upon its rich history to shape its ongoing evolution. Yet, as part of this dedicated team, collaborating with support studios, there remains an exciting anticipation for fresh changes and transformations yet to come in this captivating battlefield.
Later in the game’s progression, our partners at Beenox will unveil a combination of classic and innovative Easter eggs, hinted by Actipis. Rest assured, we won’t reveal the secrets just yet, but there’ll be plenty of exciting discoveries for players to enjoy.
Today, gamers can jump straight into Call of Duty: Warzone at no cost on Xbox, PlayStation, and personal computers. If you’re an Xbox Game Pass subscriber, you’ll even benefit from reduced prices on Call of Duty Points and the Black Cell Battle Pass upgrade!
