Films shot at a single location can be exceptionally powerful with a compelling plot, as exemplified by movies like “Buried”, “The Shallows”, and “12 Angry Men”. Alfred Hitchcock also attempted this style with the lesser-known but worthwhile watch, ‘Lifeboat’. In 2013, there was “Locke” starring Tom Hardy, where the entire film consisted of him driving a car and receiving urgent phone calls as his life spirals out of control. Now, we have another film titled “Locked“, which is set in a car this time around, featuring Bill Skarsgård and Anthony Hopkins. After viewing the trailer for “Locked”, there’s a strong desire to see it, especially given that Sam Raimi is producing it.
In summary, a thief (played by Skarsgard) finds himself in a complex situation when he breaks into a high-end SUV, unaware that he’s stepping into a chilling psychological trap. The vehicle belongs to William (portrayed by Anthony Hopkins), a wealthy individual harboring many societal grudges, especially towards those who are disadvantaged – unlike him, symbolized by his opulent car and advanced security system that protects his possessions. As the thief learns, William frequently interrupts the break-in with intervals of psychological torment, reflecting on society’s ills while inflicting more distress upon the intruder.
In the movie, Hopkins makes a call instead of physically phoning during the performance. He uses his car’s phone to converse with the criminal he has cornered and mercilessly taunts him while gaining control of the situation. With two outstanding actors, Lennard and Hopkins (who have collaborated before in Amistad, Thor, and The Dark World), this movie seems like a must-watch. Although there’s no confirmed UK release date as of now, we can expect news about it soon.
