SPOILERS for Superman #23 ahead
Lois Lane Gets an Archenemy, With Another On the Horizon
In an unprecedented collaboration, Superman joined forces with his arch-nemesis, Doomsday, to combat the ruthless Radiant, who aims to annihilate the creature that killed Superman. During the fierce encounter, Jimmy and Siobahn – girlfriend of Superman’s enemy, the Silver Banshee – found themselves in peril. Lois Lane, in an attempt to protect them, stepped into the fray. This action resulted in a confrontation with the Time Trapper, who attempted to persuade her to agree to his assassination to save Superman in the future, within a time bubble. Lois steadfastly refused, reaffirming her belief that killing is unjustifiable. Subsequently, she was released back into the present, seemingly rescuing Jimmy and Siobahn. Simultaneously, Lex Luthor devised a strategy to bring an end to this conflict using Brainiac’s technology to miniaturize the Radiant, his troops, and Doomsday, following Lois’ extraction of Superman from combat.
Lois comes to the disturbing realization that she unintentionally set the events leading to Doomsday’s transformation into Time Trapper, leaving her feeling shaken and devastated. The situation worsens when she learns that Jimmy’s injuries are more severe than initially thought, causing Lois to feel guilty. Not only does she blame herself, but Silver Banshee also confronts Lois and Superman, accusing her of the misfortune and declaring that she is now Superwoman’s sworn enemy. As Lois grapples with the complexities of supervillains in her life, it becomes clear that this will play a significant role in her future as one of Superman’s most formidable adversaries plans to regain his powers.
General Zod Is On the Warpath
Following the occurrences in “Absolute Power,” Lois Lane acquired Superwoman-like abilities. This transpired when Amanda Waller’s power-suppressing devices were destroyed, causing people to swap superpowers. Lois received Kryptonian-style powers, and it was disclosed that Zod was the one who had his powers taken by her. Ever since, Zod has been a looming threat, but in “Superman” #23, we see Zod becoming more determined to reclaim his lost powers.
In the upcoming issues, significant events will impact Lois Lane. It’s uncertain if Zod can regain his powers when exposed to a yellow sun, but if not, he might rely on Lois to do so. Currently, her powers are only temporary as they originate from Zod. If she loses those powers before Zod can reach her, it remains unclear if he’ll ever reclaim them. Once Zod discovers that Lois possesses his powers, even if he doesn’t remember this connection, he will likely focus on her. Despite being powerless, Zod still poses a threat, making the future developments involving Superman and Lois intriguing.
