Lollipop Chainsaw RePop Designer Addresses Censorship Questions

As a long-time fan of Lollipop Chainsaw, I must say I’m thrilled about the upcoming remastered version, Lollipop Chainsaw RePop! The fact that we have two modes to choose from is just the cherry on top. However, the recent concerns about potential censorship had me slightly worried. But fear not, fellow chainsaw-wielding enthusiasts! Game designer Yoshimi Yasu has taken to Twitter to reassure us that our beloved Juliet Starling and her gory glory will remain intact in the Original Mode.

The updated edition of “Lollipop Chainsaw,” titled “Lollipop Chainsaw RePop,” is set to hit stores on September 12th. This new version will offer two distinct play modes: Original Mode and RePop Mode. While the Original Mode aims to maintain most of the original gameplay, there were concerns about potential censorship as it was announced that even this mode would undergo some changes. To alleviate players’ concerns and provide clarity on what the Original Mode entails, the game designer of “Lollipop Chainsaw RePop,” Yoshimi Yasu, recently addressed these issues via Twitter.

In the case of the game “Lollipop Chainsaw,” much discussion revolved around its graphic violence and the character design of Juliet Starling. Initially, during the development of “RePop,” there were no demands for changes from any of the platform publishers.

He mentioned that the primary approach mirrors the same tone of gruesome expressions, cinematic handling of violent scenes, character designs, movements, comic-style character introductions, costumes, and achievements found in the original version.

Instead, the updates are aimed at modernizing the revamped edition of “Lollipop Ch chainsaw,” making it comparable to contemporary games. This includes incorporating features such as rewind options, user-friendly save states, and additional enhancements that minimize frustration during gameplay.

He went on to explain, “The parameters for contemporary action games have been significantly altered. For instance, factors like attack strength, character movement speed, camera movement range, the time allowed for combos, initial combo skills, the number of remaining shots in a blaster, modifications to Nick’s unique moves, an auto QTE option, a shift from ranking mode to time-attack across all stages, adjustments to the shop inventory, price changes, the introduction of a chain attack system, visual enhancements such as image quality, resolution, and frames per second (FPS), and the inclusion of Yukari Tamura’s voice.”

On the horizon, there’s an immediate update planned. However, when it comes to these initial patches, numerous games often find themselves under comparison, with users scrutinizing for any alterations or potential “edits” that might have occurred close to a game’s launch. Yasuda clarifies that this upcoming day-one update is primarily aimed at rectifying bugs and enhancing the quality of the ranking mode, and it does not involve implementing changes suggested by platforms.
