What were the Gilgo Beach serial killings?

From 1993 up until 2011, a string of murders, collectively known as the Gilgo Beach killings, occurred. In the year 2010, several victims’ remains were discovered during a police investigation in the Gilgo region, following the mysterious disappearance of Shannan Gilbert.
Each woman who vanished and was later found deceased was around 20 years old, held jobs in the sex industry, and had arranged a meeting with a customer prior to their disappearance. This shared experience connected them all.
Who is the suspect in the Gilgo Beach murders?
In the year 2023, Rex Heuermann, aged 59 at the time, was taken into custody and faced accusations for the homicides of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello.
