Director Osgood Perkins maintained the mystery with Longlegs‘s grand finale.

In an interview with ComicBook, actress Alicia Witt discussed her experience filming the last scene for this summer’s most chilling horror production, “Longlegs.”

We spent two full days filming that entire scene due to the need to capture numerous perspectives. When it came to filming my part, which was referred to as “my coverage,” we had already worked on it for nearly a day and a half.

Witt portrays Ruth Harker, who appears to be an innocent, overly-religious elderly woman and is Maika Monroe’s character, Agent Lee Harker’s mother. However, the movie uncovers that Ruth has a hidden role as Longlegs’s partner in the series of murders. To save her daughter’s life, Ruth had struck a deal with the devil, as Longlegs had intended to take Lee’s life when she was just a child.

When Lee discovers the real nature of her mother’s occupation, it becomes unclear whether Ruth was solely protecting her daughter or if she harbored malevolent intentions.

In my filmmaking career spanning four decades, Oz provided me with an extraordinary and cherished experience. He presented me with a challenging task, offering contrasting directions for a scene multiple times in succession. Consequently, I performed the entire scene from various perspectives: once filled with intense rage, another time immersed in deep grief, followed by a mischievous take and a solemn one.

The scene continued unfolding before me, leaving no room for reflection or doubt. It felt like the climax of my filmmaking journey – a testament to trust and letting go, all under the guidance of a true master. Once we wrapped up, there was an outpouring of applause. The moment was truly memorable. My esteemed co-star, Blair Underwood, approached me with a warm handshake, making the experience even more extraordinary.

When it came to the final presentation for the audience, Witt shared that Perkins combined three distinct versions of my gaming performance into one seamless experience.

I’ve had the unique opportunity to work with Oz, a talented filmmaker, on one of his projects. During the Automated Dialogue Replacement (ADR) session, I caught a glimpse of some scenes that were being worked on. However, my connection to those moments ran deep. The role I played and the intense emotional experience I had during the shoot made me feel incredibly personal and cathartic.

Longlegs is currently in theaters.
