Maika Monroe has been announced as part of the cast for “Victorian Psycho,” where she will play the lead role of the “murderous governess.” She is well-known for her character, Agent Lee Harker in Longlegs, who has a unique psychic bond with Nicolas Cage’s evolving serial killer.

The upcoming movie titled “Victorian Psycho” will be helmed by Zachary Wigon, fresh from 2022’s “Sanctuary,” and will star Thomasin McKenzie, known for his role in “JoJo Rabbit.” The screenplay is penned by Virginia Feito, who not only wrote this film but also authored the critically acclaimed book that serves as its basis.

Initially, actress Margaret Qualley was set to play the governess character named Winifred Notty, but she left the project. Now, Haley Bennett (Monroe) has replaced Qualley in the role.

1858 serves as the backdrop for the tale, “Victorian Psycho,” where Winifred Notty, portrayed by Monroe, takes on the role of governess in a grand yet isolated gothic mansion. As other household personnel mysteriously vanish, Notty’s concealed sinister self emerges.

Director Zachary Wigon expressed, “Maika’s captivating on-screen persona has deeply affected me numerous times during her career filled with intricate performances. I’m incredibly excited for her to employ her distinctive method of psychological character studies in the enigmatic and peculiar character of Winifred Notty.

In a new take on the chilling tale, Monroe will complete a set of three horror films by starring as the malevolent nanny in a reimagined version of The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, a movie centered around a villainous caretaker. The role was previously played by Rebecca De Mornay in the original film.
