Looks Like Resident Evil 5 Is Getting a PS5 Port Too

As a big fan, I can’t help but get excited about the rumors swirling around! It appears that Resident Evil 5, just like its successor Resident Evil 6, is gearing up for a native PS5 release. Similar to RE6, an age rating for an Xbox Series X|S version of Chris Redfield and Sheva Alamar’s adventure in Africa has popped up on the ESRB website. While it’s possible that this port could initially be exclusive to Microsoft consoles, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we’ll also get a PS5 version!

Initially, Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 were launched on the PS3, with each game receiving a basic upgrade for the PS4 in the previous generation. Following this, Capcom has been focusing on enhancing the Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 remakes, and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard to match PS5 specifications. They’ve added features like DualSense controller compatibility, 120 frames-per-second, quicker load times, and ray tracing support. It’s anticipated that Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 will also receive similar upgrades.

If these PS5 ports occur, it means that only Resident Evil Zero (the original PS1 game) and Resident Evil Code: Veronica remain as the mainline entries without native versions specifically for Sony’s current-generation platform. Nevertheless, all of them can be played on PS5 due to backwards compatibility, where their PS4 versions can still be enjoyed.

In our review of Resident Evil 5 on PS4, we gave it a 6 out of 10. The game is puzzling because it can be criticized for being too similar to its predecessor while also making significant changes. Ultimately, despite its confusing moments, it’s an enjoyable adventure that offers great fun when it isn’t perplexing. Moreover, considering the wealth of content provided at the listed price, it’s worth taking a chance on. And let’s not forget, you get to punch a boulder!
