Louis Theroux isn’t stopping working for the BBC, he confirms

Louis Theroux clarified that contrary to some speculations, he is still producing shows for the BBC after recent news stories.

Initially, The Sun announced that Louis Theroux’s Interview series might stop airing on BBC “temporarily,” a claim that the documentary producer verified. However, he emphasized that he would still be involved in different projects with the broadcasting corporation.

As a passionate cinephile, I recently shared with Deadline that, having immersed myself in the world of The Louis Theroux Podcast, it just wouldn’t fit the bill to replicate such a format on the small screen.

In his conversation with the media outlet, he expressed that the articles didn’t seem to fit together nicely, but what he took away from the piece was a misunderstanding about him no longer producing programs for the BBC, which is actually incorrect.

Essentially, I’m currently working on documentaries for both the BBC and another platform. To clarify, I’m producing a documentary for the BBC right now, while also creating content for other channels. Have we cleared up that point, haven’t we?

Mindhouse, the production company founded by Theroux, has previously aired Boybands Forever on BBC Two and boasts an impressive portfolio of works across various broadcasting platforms and streaming services. Some of its notable projects include KSI: In Real Life on Prime Video, Can I Tell You a Secret? on Netflix, and Prince William: We Can End Homelessness on ITV.

Theroux stated about Mindhouse, “We’re genuinely grateful that we’re still operational, given how tough the climate has been.” He added, “The industry seems like it’s gone through a brutal purge, and much of this is due to factors such as streaming platforms, particularly phones, social media apps like TikTok and Instagram Reels, and individuals creating their own content.

He went on to say: “There’s a certain charm about it that’s captivating, and it’s thrilling. As a parent, I can observe how traditions are evolving. However, for those who were accustomed to television production when there were only a handful of options on regular TV and a few more on cable, this is quite an adjustment.

In our approach, we’ve consistently adhered to our core values and strengths. Essentially, this translates into creating quality shows and thought-provoking documentaries, while placing faith in the fact that viewers will appreciate and engage with these productions.
