As a seasoned cinephile with decades of romantic drama under my belt, I can confidently say that Love Is Blind UK has delivered yet another rollercoaster ride of emotions. The wedding episodes were nothing short of a nail-biting suspense thriller, and Maria and Tom’s tale was the twist nobody saw coming – or rather, the no that everyone saw coming but wished hadn’t.
***Warning: Major spoilers ahead for Love Is Blind UK***
One major aspect Love Is Blind UK delivers to its viewers is the abundance of drama. During the wedding episodes, six pairs who were previously engaged walked down the aisle aiming to start their married lives, but unfortunately, three of these unions did not materialize.
It appears that everything was set for Maria and Tom’s union. They had introduced each other to their families, and even earned Maria’s mother’s approval for the wedding. Consequently, when Tom refused at the altar, it’s reasonable to assume that many were perplexed – yet perhaps not Maria and Tom themselves.
Towards the end of our series, Tom conveyed to Maria: “I have deep feelings for you. But at this moment, I don’t think it’s appropriate for me. We’ve encountered some discrepancies in our values, and I haven’t fully grasped how these disparities might influence our everyday life.”
Pausing to contemplate, Maria expressed her astonishment by saying: “I never thought this would happen. I had dreamed of getting married, of becoming someone’s wife, and it’s heartbreaking not to have the conclusion I had always imagined for my life.”
“I suspect that it might not have been the ideal moment for either of us. To be honest, I’m at a loss for words. I guess I’m simply taken aback.”
She shared: “We expected a ‘no’, as there was still a lot more to discover about one another. Realistically, we acknowledged that others might bring us greater happiness.”
As a film enthusiast, I found myself deeply engrossed in the possibility of this union, so much so that I couldn’t help but yearn for its success, even when it seemed like a definite no.
However, the dedication you’ve shown is remarkable. It feels as if you’ve poured your entire existence into this endeavor, and you’re compelled to invest as much time and effort as possible.
Yet, Maria was quite explicit as she acknowledged that they “ought to have departed much earlier than the wedding”!

Reflecting on his choice, Tom admitted to the cameras that it was tougher than expected to reject Maria.
“He stated, ‘She’s someone I’ll forever hold dear and admire.’ However, if Maria and I were parents, my worry would be that she might instill in our son the habit of paying for many expenses, especially during his initial dating experiences.”
Speaking as someone who values equality, I’d express it this way: “If I were to have a daughter, I wouldn’t want her to grow up thinking that men should always foot the bill. Instead, I’d strive to nurture her into a strong, self-reliant woman who contributes to her own well-being. Regrettably, we ran out of time to delve deeper into these topics.”
It seems their romantic connection has ended, but they’ve managed to maintain some level of friendship or acquaintance.
