The sneak peek for the next Shonen Jump issue even suggests that a confrontation between Gear Five Luffy and Imu could unfold in the upcoming chapters.

A recent post by @TheAniTalk has shared a sneak peek from Shonen Jump’s upcoming Issue 28, set to release on June 9th. This particular glimpse focuses on the One Piece section of the preview, where Luffy is shown in Gear Five and Imu is seen occupying Gunko’s body, as hinted at the end of Chapter 1149. The text accompanying the image roughly translates to “Imu’s sudden arrival has caused chaos on Elbaph! Overpower Imu with the might of Nika.” This, along with the clear “versus” symbol between Imu and Luffy, strongly suggests that Chapter 1151 could involve a battle between Luffy and Imu using Gear Five.

One Piece Hints Luffy Will Face Imu Sooner Than Fans Think

Since their debut in Chapter 906, Imu has been gradually developed as the potential final antagonist of One Piece, alongside characters like Blackbeard and his crew. This has led many fans to assume that the confrontation between Imu, the World Government, the Five Elders, and our protagonists would occur near the end of the series. However, with One Piece officially starting its Final Saga after Wano, it was surprising for viewers when Luffy encountered Imu much sooner than anticipated. This is why Imu’s appearance on Elbaf took fans by surprise.

In the current situation on Elbaf, it seems no one has the ability to overpower Imu while inhabiting Gunko’s body, considering Gaban is out of play after being defeated and excluded from the scene.
