New details surrounding Luigi Mangione’s case are coming to light.

Approximately six months following the arrest of a 27-year-old, who denies murder charges connected to the deadly shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, a court document filed on June 4 (as reported by TopMob News) suggests that he kept a red notebook as a personal journal, in which he apparently outlined his intentions to carry out the executive’s assassination several months prior to the incident.

If you’re considering a rebellion against the lethal and money-hungry health insurance conglomerate, as Mangione is reported to have written in August 2024 according to the state filing, then you might wonder, “Should I attack their headquarters?” But remember, destruction equals terrorism.

He went on to say, “These behaviors seem like an excessive response from someone who’s upset due to illness or misfortune, and they’ve chosen to vent their anger towards the insurance sector. Unfortunately, this careless behavior also puts numerous workers at risk.

In a subsequent journal entry, as I proposed last October, I suggested the idea of eliminating a certain individual, specifically the CEO, at his annual gathering of financial analysts, which I referred to somewhat ominously as the “parasitic bean-counting convention.

He clarified that it was aimed, accurate, and didn’t endanger bystanders. What stood out most, however, was the clear message. The message was evidently conveyed in the headline itself, “Insurance CEO assassinated at annual investors conference.

The reason state prosecutors chose to distribute copies of Mangione’s suspected manifesto was to substantiate the addition of a terrorism enhancement to his initial first-degree murder charge.

In the document he submitted, Assistant District Attorney Joel Seidemann stated that this particular case is undeniably one where the defendant’s guilt is apparent. To put it simply, it would be challenging to locate a case with evidence as conclusive as this one, demonstrating not only the identity of the murderer but also the premeditated nature of the crime.

However, following Pamela Bondi‘s announcement in April as Attorney General under Donald Trump, that the Department of Justice would pursue capital punishment if Mangione is federally convicted, his attorney Karen Agnifilo criticized the Justice Department for protecting what she deemed a “faulty, unethical, and lethal” healthcare sector.

In her statement to NBC News, she expressed that the Justice Department’s intent to assassinate Luigi Mangione shifted from being dysfunctional to being uncivilized or barbaric. She also stated that their choice to execute Luigi was driven by politics.

As an ardent supporter, I stand ready to battle these federal accusations, instigated by what appears to be a lawless Department of Justice, alongside the New York State charges, Pennsylvania charges, and any additional allegations they might throw at Luigi. He’s unfortunately ensnared in a high-stakes game of legal tug-of-war between state and federal prosecutors, with the prize being nothing less than a young man’s life. I’ve even filed a motion to dismiss the New York State murder charges against him.

Brian Thompson served as CEO at UnitedHealthcare, a position he assumed in 2021 after joining the company back in 2004 and holding various roles beforehand. Prior to his tenure at UnitedHealthcare, Thompson worked at PwC, as per his LinkedIn profile. He graduated with honors from the University of Iowa in May 1997 with a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, focusing on accounting, a fact confirmed by Steve Schmadeke, the university’s public relations manager, to NBC News.

Thompson resided in Minnesota and was married to Paulette Thompson; however, according to records examined by TopMob News, they had been living apart. Thompson was 50 years old when he was tragically killed in New York on December 4, 2024.

At 6:46 a.m. on December 4, 2024, officers from the NYPD’s Midtown North Precinct responded to a shooting incident outside the New York Hilton Midtown hotel, as stated by NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny in a press conference later that morning. The officers arrived at the scene two minutes later and discovered gunshot wounds on the victim, identified as Thompson, on his back and leg. Emergency Medical Services transported him to Mount Sinai West, where he was pronounced dead at 7:12 a.m.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch explained during the press conference that Thompson had been in New York City for an investor conference. She suggested that the suspect lay in wait for several minutes before approaching Thompson from behind and firing multiple shots, striking him at least once in the back and once in the right calf. Despite numerous passersby, the suspect seemed to bide his time until the victim was within sight.

Tisch described the shooting as a “pre-meditated, pre-planned, targeted attack” rather than a random act of violence. She emphasized that the NYPD’s investigation into the case is ongoing and they are determined to find and arrest the shooter.

As per Kenny’s account, the gunman made his way to the New York Hilton Midtown on foot and arrived outside the hotel five minutes prior to Thompson’s arrival. In a recorded statement, Kenny explained that Thompson was spotted walking alone towards the Hilton at 6:44 a.m., presumably en route to a UnitedHealth Group investors conference scheduled for 8 a.m. that day.

Kenny further detailed that the shooter, disregarding other pedestrians, approached Thompson from behind and fired multiple shots. The gunman then fled on foot before hopping onto an ebike, with the shooter being seen entering Central Park at Center Drive at 6:48 a.m.

During the investigation, three live nine-millimeter rounds and three discharged shell casings were recovered. During a press briefing on December 6, Kenny mentioned that the words “depose,” “delay,” and “deny” were written on the shell casing with marker.

However, Kenny stated that the motive for the murder remains unconfirmed at this time.

During the press conference held on December 6th, Kenny stated that investigators possess footage of the suspect arriving at Port Authority in New York City on November 24th night. He further explained that this bus is believed to have originated in Atlanta, with multiple stops along its route, making it unclear where exactly the suspect boarded the bus.

After his arrival at Port Authority, Kenny detailed, the gunman hailed a taxi and headed towards the vicinity of the Hilton hotel, staying there for about half an hour before moving to an Upper West Side hostel. The shooting occurred later that morning, at 6:44 a.m., following which the suspect escaped the scene.

Kenny added that the gunman was seen entering Central Park at the intersection of 60th Street and Center Drive at 6:48 a.m., and exiting through W. 77th St. and Central Park West at 6:56 a.m. By 7:00 a.m., he was spotted without his bike in the area, and four minutes later, the chief detective mentioned, the suspect hailed a cab on 86th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. The gunman was then observed near the George Washington Bridge at 7:30 a.m.

Kenny concluded by stating that investigators initially believed the shooter had left New York City after being seen at Port Authority.

At a Dec. 4 press conference, Kenny described the suspect as a man with a fair complexion who wore a light-colored jacket, possibly brown or cream, a black face mask, sneakers with black and white stripes, and a distinctive gray backpack.

In the following days, the NYPD released a sequence of images depicting the individual they were searching for, with many pictures showing the subject’s face concealed by a mask.

On Dec. 5, an NBC News senior law enforcement source reported that photos without a masked face originated from surveillance footage at an Upper West Side hostel. Additionally, two separate officials informed the outlet that investigators were attempting to ascertain if the individual had used a fake ID and cash for the hostel room.

Regarding why the suspect lowered his face mask, Kenny explained at the Dec. 6 briefing that there was a casual conversation during check-in, and at some point, he pulled down his mask and smiled at the clerk.

Kenny also mentioned that a cellphone was discovered in an alley where the shooter escaped, but it remains uncertain if it belonged to the gunman. Furthermore, a backpack was found in Central Park.

Investigators are examining all possible leads—including Thompson’s social media activity and interviews with employees and family members—to advance the case. They are also collaborating with law enforcement agencies in Minnesota and Atlanta.

On December 9, the Altoona Police Department in Pennsylvania apprehended Luigi Mangione on gun-related allegations. As reported by NBC News, the charges against him include two felonies: one for forgery and one for unlicensed firearm possession, as well as three misdemeanors: tampering with records or identification, possessing tools used in a crime, and providing false identification to law enforcement officials.

NYPD commissioner Tisch stated that a McDonald’s employee recognized Mangione, leading to the Altoona police being contacted. When asked about his recent travels to New York, Mangione reportedly grew quiet and began shaking, as reported by NBC News.

Tisch also identified Mangione as a person of interest in the murder of Thompson and discussed the ongoing search for him, expressing gratitude towards law enforcement partners and the public. She detailed the extensive efforts made to locate Mangione, which included sifting through countless hours of video footage, following up on numerous tips, and analyzing all available forensic evidence such as DNA, fingerprints, IP addresses, and more to tighten the net.

“For over five days, our NYPD investigators meticulously combed through thousands of hours of video, pursued hundreds of leads, and processed every piece of forensic evidence: DNA, finger prints, IP addresses and so much more to narrow down the search,” she said. “We employed drones, canine units, and scuba divers. We utilized the domain awareness system, Argus cameras and conducted aviation sweeps, and our detectives also went door-to-door interviewing potential witnesses and engaging in the traditional detective work that our investigators are renowned for. This blend of classic detective work and modern technology is what ultimately led to this outcome today.

Beyond acting suspiciously, Tisch stated, Mangione was found possessing multiple fake IDs and an American passport. During the December 9 briefing, she explained that officers found a firearm on him, along with a silencer, matching the weapon used in the murder. They also discovered clothing items, including a mask similar to those worn by our suspect. Tisch added that a fraudulent New Jersey ID was recovered, which matched the one used by the individual to check into the New York hostel before the shooting. Furthermore, officers found a handwritten note indicating his motives and mental state.

On December 9th, NBC News reports that Manhattan prosecutors have charged Mangione with murder. The documents reveal that he is additionally accused of three weapon-related offenses: two counts for illegally possessing loaded firearms (at the second-degree level), and one count for illegal possession of a silencer (at the third-degree level). Furthermore, there is one charge related to possessing a falsified document. As of yet, Mangione has not entered a plea regarding any of these charges.

According to reports from NBC News, based on NYPD findings, Mangione was found with a three-page note containing less than 300 words during his arrest. The note contained phrases like “Frankly these parasites had it coming,” suggesting he acted alone but not ruling out potential involvement of others. The note also contained an apology for any trouble caused and stated that Mangione was not working with anyone else. However, the exact motive behind his actions remains unconfirmed as the investigation continues. In a recent interview on Today, Tisch noted that the note showed anti-corporate sentiment and issues with healthcare, but a specific motive is yet to be confirmed as the investigation progresses over the coming weeks and months.

On December 10, Mangione went to a court hearing at the Blair County Courthouse in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. Upon his arrival, NBC News reported, he expressed his disapproval to families present, stating, “This is completely detached from reality and an affront to the intelligence of American citizens.”

According to the news outlet, Mangione did not waive extradition to New York and was denied bail. Consequently, he will continue to be held in SCI Huntingdon prison in Pennsylvania.

Mangione’s lawyer, Thomas Dickey, spoke to reporters, indicating that Mangione plans to plead not guilty in both Pennsylvania and New York. He added, “I haven’t found any evidence suggesting he is the shooter.” Recalling a crucial principle of American justice, Dickey emphasized, “It’s important to remember: The presumption of innocence is a fundamental aspect of our legal system, and one must be proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt before they can be convicted.

Luigi Mangione, a former Ivy League student, is under investigation for the murder of Brian Thompson and various other charges in both Pennsylvania and New York, such as forgery and illegal weapon possession.

Mangione graduated with a Bachelor of Science in engineering in 2020 and a Masters of Science in engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, which was confirmed to NBC News. The NYPD Chief of Detectives Kenny shared more about Mangione’s background, mentioning that he was born and raised in Maryland, but his most recent address is listed as Honolulu, while also having connections to San Francisco.

Following Mangione’s arrest, his family released a statement via X, stating: “Regrettably, we cannot comment on the news reports concerning Luigi Mangione. We are only aware of what we’ve read in the media. Our family is stunned and deeply saddened by Luigi’s arrest. We extend our condolences to Brian Thompson’s family, and we ask everyone to keep all parties involved in their prayers.

Following the news about the tragic shooting, Brian Thompson’s family expressed their devastation, stating: “We are deeply saddened to learn about the senseless loss of our dear Brian. He was a man full of love, generosity, and talent who lived life to the fullest and left an indelible mark on many hearts. Above all, he was a loving father to our two sons and will be dearly missed. We appreciate your sympathies and ask for privacy during this challenging period.”

Additionally, his wife Paulette shared that Brian had mentioned receiving threats before his demise. When speaking with NBC News on Dec. 5, she said: “Yes, there were some threats. I’m not sure of the details, but it seems like a lack of attention or coverage was the reason.

As a fervent admirer of Brian Thompson, it’s heart-wrenching for me to learn about his untimely passing. UnitedHealth Group, where he was not just a colleague but a cherished friend, has expressed their profound sadness and shock at this tragic event. Flags fly half-mast at their corporate headquarters in Minnesota as a symbol of their grief.

In a statement on December 4th, the organization shared that Brian was deeply respected and loved by all who worked with him. They’re cooperating with the New York Police Department during this challenging time, asking for patience and understanding. Their thoughts are with Brian’s family and everyone close to him.

Despite their own heartache, they expressed gratitude in a December 5th statement for the outpouring of kindness and support from patients, consumers, healthcare professionals, associations, government officials, and caring individuals. This overwhelming show of empathy has touched them during this dark hour.

Their priorities at this moment are supporting Brian’s family, ensuring employee safety, and working with law enforcement to bring the perpetrator to justice.
