Disneyland will once more provide unique Star Wars content, and this time it’s something fans have eagerly anticipated since the beginning: the inclusion of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

While you’re thrilled about it, remember this isn’t a permanent change. At Disneyland, Luke will be featured for a brief period as part of the Season of the Force event. Unfortunately, Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World seems to be receiving fewer offerings compared to the company’s main income source.
Disney’s Reluctance to Break the Sequel Trilogy Mold
From the very beginning, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has maintained a connection with the less favored Star Wars sequel trilogy, limiting the types of characters that can be featured within the area.
In simpler terms, Scott Trowbridge stated that while we, as visitors, can explore various tales across the entire *Star Wars* timeline, the characters on Batuu will stay within their own particular story and timeframe. They won’t interact with characters or events that wouldn’t fit their narrative.

The inflexible strategy they’ve adopted means that significant figures from the initial and prequel saga series – such as Darth Vader, Han Solo, Princess Leia, and Obi-Wan Kenobi – have been omitted from Galaxy’s Edge. Despite the sequel films facing challenges in keeping a devoted fanbase, Disney has remained unyielding, choosing to stick with their singular focus on the time period portrayed in The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, rather than making changes.
Nevertheless, flaws in that method have been emerging. Both parks have unveiled The Mandalorian and Grogu in Galaxy’s Edge, with a fresh Mandalorian narrative planned for the Smuggler’s Run attraction. However, as The Mandalorian consistently wears his helmet and Grogu’s species ages at a slow pace, this could be rationalized as the characters carrying on their storyline into the sequel saga.
At Disneyland, they’ve added new characters to the mix – Boba Fett, Fennec Shand, Ahsoka Tano, Chopper, and Sabine Wren. These characters belong to a timeframe that predates or is separate from the sequel trilogy.
Luke Skywalker Finally Arrives—But Only in California
Beginning on March 28th, Disneyland will unveil a fresh projection show titled “Shadows of Memory: A Skywalker Saga,” where the towers of Batuu will be adorned with visuals from Star Wars lore. Notably, a mysterious figure dressed as a Jedi is expected to materialize in this region, suggesting that the much-anticipated character, Luke Skywalker, may make his long-awaited debut at Galaxy’s Edge. Yet, it’s essential to note that this experience is only temporary, so enthusiasts should hurry to Disneyland before they take away what many believe to be the most sought-after Star Wars character from this land.
In this scenario, Disneyland gets exclusive Galaxy’s Edge features that are not available at Walt Disney World. To clarify, characters such as Boba Fett, Fennec Shand, Ahsoka Tano, Hera Syndulla, Chopper, and Sabine Wren have been present in the California version of Batuu but have yet to appear in Florida’s equivalent.

Currently, Luke Skywalker has been moved to Disneyland for a limited-time event, which underscores the fact that Disney may not be ready to deliver long-lasting or substantial content that fans are eagerly anticipating.
The primary revenue-generating theme park of the company is lagging behind again. While Disneyland continues to introduce fresh characters and improvements to create a more vibrant atmosphere, the Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World seems stuck in a time warp. Despite its significant attendance and financial significance to Disney, Florida has been overlooked repeatedly when it comes to character appearances that truly bring Galaxy’s Edge to life as a Star Wars universe.
It’s not entirely surprising when you consider one very important fact…
Character “Encounters” in Galaxy’s Edge Are a Mess
Disney’s commitment to creating an immersive in-universe experience within Galaxy’s Edge can sometimes lead to frustrating interactions for guests. Unlike traditional meet-and-greets where fans queue up for photos, characters here seem to roam freely, causing confusion. This leads to situations where popular characters’ appearances instantly attract large crowds, obstructing paths and transforming the experience into a competitive free-for-all, with only the most persistent guests getting their moment. Characters like The Mandalorian, Grogu, Ahsoka, and others have already caused these issues, and adding Luke Skywalker, especially during a limited, highly anticipated event, will likely exacerbate the problem.
(It’s not a big problem for Rey or Kylo Ren though…)

In another instance, it’s clear that Disney continues to resist adapting to what fans truly desire. The traditional character interactions, or meet-and-greets, serve a purpose – they provide an organized method for guests to engage with beloved characters. However, at Galaxy’s Edge, Disney insists on maintaining the concept that this area should be a “living” part of the Star Wars universe, often resulting in a guest experience that is less enjoyable as a result.
Will Disney Ever Give Fans What They Want?
It’s clear that Disney understands what fans desire, as evidenced by Luke Skywalker’s temporary visit to Galaxy’s Edge. However, instead of establishing him as a permanent character or having him appear on both coasts, they’ve decided to limit his presence exclusively to Disneyland. Unfortunately, it seems that Walt Disney World is still being overlooked, with no indication that it will receive the same level of attention or upgrades.

This situation brings up a significant point: When might Disney start prioritizing Star Wars fans instead of considering them secondary? The passion for iconic characters has been present since the beginning, but Disney persists in resisting substantial changes to Galaxy’s Edge. Rather than stubbornly adhering to the problematic sequel-era timeline and limiting storytelling, it’s high time for Disney to focus on what truly resonates with fans. Luke Skywalker’s return could mark a turning point; however, based on past trends, it seems Disney will likely carry on making fans yearn for the authentic Star Wars experiences they desire.
