Game developer Enhance has unveiled the rhythm-based puzzle game “Lumines Arise,” which is set to release on PlayStation 5, PlayStation VR2, and PC via Steam this coming autumn.

Embark on a Journey Paved With Sound and Light

Experience Lumines Arise on PlayStation 5, which also supports PS VR2 as an additional feature, is not just another simple puzzle game; it’s designed to touch your emotions deeply. In the initial stage (a brief sneak peek of which was shown in today’s trailer), you step out of the shadows, and each of the over 30 stages triggers unique and intricate emotional reactions. From verdant jungles, vibrant oceans brimming with life, and serpents poised to attack, to futuristic settings like Tokyo’s bustling streets and the infinite depths of space. Each scene is adorned with visual effects intended to evoke synesthesia.

Simple Mechanic, Surprising Depth

The gameplay begins with what appears to be a straightforward puzzle concept. For those unfamiliar with Lumines, here’s an explanation: manipulate and position a mix of 2×2 blocks, which can have one or two colors/patterns, to create squares of a single color. As the music pulses, a Timeline moves across the screen, wiping away completed squares in its path. This creates a subtle time constraint for you to form squares and build upon them, aiming to create bigger and bigger squares to trigger combos and rack up even higher scores.

You swiftly build combinations, always aware of the Timeline’s ceaseless motion, sensing the resonance from the DualSense controller while the music echoes within your ears and the vivid, energetic backdrop captivates you. This is when you find yourself in a state of flow, and the world around fades away. Your heart beats faster as your breath pauses momentarily.

Introducing Burst

To take things to the next level, we’re unveiling a fresh addition to Lumines’ fundamental gameplay: a feature called Burst! As you engage in gameplay, a gauge will progressively fill, visible atop the Timeline. Once charged, press a designated button to trigger Burst and lock a formed square onto the playfield. Try to expand it as much as possible before time expires. Watch as screen-clearing combos accumulate massive points when Burst is finished, and the Timeline begins erasing that color from the screen again. Accumulate enough squares to meet the stage’s requirement, and you’ll be propelled forward to a new environment!

In this updated version, you can create personalized avatars from an extensive library of designs, which is the largest collection in the series thus far. We’re continually expanding our offerings, so keep an eye out for future updates. This is a fantastic method to showcase your individuality and personality as you embark on your virtual adventure within the game.
