As I delve into the lives of these extraordinary women, I am struck by their resilience and determination. Tammi, a woman who found love amidst adversity, is a testament to the power of empathy and understanding. Her journey from a troubled marriage to finding solace in Erik Menendez’s letters, and eventually marriage itself, is a tale that could only be penned by fate itself.
As Lyle Menendez awaits his fate in prison, he’s doing so as a single man.
After spending 21 years married to him, who is currently serving a life sentence alongside his brother Erik Menendez for the murders they committed in 1989 against their parents, and his wife Rebecca Sneed, have officially separated. This information was posted on Facebook by Rebecca herself.
For some time now, Lyle and I have been apart but we’re still close friends and family. This was shared on her official Facebook page on November 22, confirmed by her attorney to NBC News. I continue to manage his Facebook accounts with input from him, and I remain steadfast in my dedication to the ongoing campaign for Lyle and Erik’s release, a commitment that has been clear over the years.
Rebecca went on to say, “I’ll keep everyone informed about the advancements in this case as we share a collective ambition to see these men released. Rest assured, I won’t give up in my pursuit of justice for them.
Her post also confirmed, “This is NOT a cheating scandal.”
TopMob News has attempted to get a response from Rebecca and Lyle, but they have not replied as of now.
The announcement about their separation has surfaced recently, approximately four weeks following a public declaration from Lyle, which was incorporated in an updated plea for reduced sentencing and dated November 7th, as revealed by NBC News. However, this statement did not disclose the details of their separation.
In November, I’ll be celebrating my 20th wedding anniversary, as Lyle mentioned in his statement. Living up to the role of a husband and a partner while being behind bars hasn’t been easy, but it’s also transformed my life for the better in numerous aspects.
He went on to say, “I’m deeply appreciative of her constant encouragement and faith in me. It’s been a significant factor in my transformation into a better individual.
The Menendez brothers’ legal journey and battle has long been the subject of public fascination, made increasingly so in recent months by the release of Ryan Murphy’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and subsequent Menendez Brothers documentary from Netflix.
As more attention was paid to the alleged mistreatment the brothers suffered at the hands of their parents Kitty and Jose Menendez, so too grew demands to reevaluate their sentences, along with an endeavor by the departing Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón to have the brothers re-sentenced.
Although he endorsed the brothers’ plea for mercy and subsequently dispatched letters to California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office in October, George Gascón unexpectedly failed to secure reelection a few days later, with former U.S. Assistant Attorney General Nathan Hochman taking his place instead.
Now, Newsom has sent the case back to the D.A.’s office, to be handled by Gascón’s successor.
According to a statement from his office on November 18, which was shared with NBC News, Governor Newom acknowledges and values the role of District Attorney-elect Hochman in upholding justice. He understands that voters have placed their trust in Hochman to fulfill this duty. In regards to the Menendez case, the Governor plans to wait for Hochman’s evaluation and analysis before making any decisions regarding clemency.
To my knowledge, District Attorney-elect Hochman hasn’t yet expressed his views openly about the Menendez brothers’ case in public.
Previously, during a debate in October, Gascón admitted that the documentary about the Menendez Brothers played a role in moving their case forward more quickly.
As soon as the Netflix documentary was released, we were inundated with media queries and phone calls since the case resurfaced. Instead of responding to each request individually, we decided it would be more straightforward to make a clear statement about our current position.

On July 2, 1996, when Lyle Menendez was already 28 years old, he wed model and salon receptionist Anna Eriksson. This matrimonial event took place on the same day that Lyle and his brother Erik Menendez were given a life sentence in prison without the chance of parole, for their involvement in the 1989 murders of their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez.
In 1993, Anna began corresponding with Lyle while he was on trial for the first time. This trial ended as a mistrial, but the following year, she relocated to California to be close to him. During the lengthy retrial that started in 1995 and lasted until March 1996, she proved to be a constant support. As reported by the Los Angeles Times, this was the period when Lyle was eventually convicted.
Despite not being able to recite their vows in person, Lyle opted to get married via telephone, with the groom under arrest and the bride in the office of attorney Leslie Abramson.
He seemingly hoped to be able to wed Anna in person, once he knew where he’d end up.
Back in September 1996, California Correctional Institution spokesman Lt. Jack Pitko informed the LA Times that there was indeed a marriage process ongoing. He added that due to high demand, there was a waiting list, but under the condition that all rules are followed, he saw no reason why the individual in question shouldn’t be able to get married.
In the year 2001, it’s reported that Anna initiated a divorce proceeding, presumably due to claims that she discovered Lyle was writing to other women, as suggested by various news sources at the time.
Lyle took his time before marrying Rebecca Sneed, who was about 33 at the time, in November 2003. They had been acquainted for ten years, initially through letters and later through personal meetings, as confirmed by a prison spokesperson to the Associated Press regarding their wedding.
The event transpired at Mule Creek State Prison, located close to Sacramento, where Lyle had been staying until his reunion with Erik in 2018, which took place at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility situated in southern San Diego County.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d put it like this: “In our relationship, we manage to keep distractions at bay, fostering deep, intimate conversations that are not always common among many married couples, who often find themselves preoccupied with life’s happenings.” This was shared in an interview with People magazine back in 2017. At that time, Rebecca resided in Sacramento and would make frequent visits to our shared location.
Lyle mentioned that we chat on the phone daily, occasionally multiple times a day. He shared that his marriage is consistent and engaging, which provides him stability, comfort, and happiness. It serves as a balance against the uncertain, highly stressful surroundings he’s in.
He admitted that Rebecca had endured much. However, what sets her apart is her bravery in facing challenges. Leaving might seem simpler, but I’m deeply appreciative that she chooses not to.
Erik’s spouse, Tammi Menendez (now 62 years old), was wed to Chuck Saccoman when she first saw the younger Menendez brother on television in 1993 and found a unique affection for the 22-year-old suspect facing murder charges.
Later on, as she shared with People magazine, she conveyed to her spouse that she intended to pen a letter to Erik. In response, Chuck granted her permission.
Erik shared with the press, “I came across Tammi’s letter and it stirred some emotion within me. Among all the letters I receive, this one stood out. It gave me a particular feeling.” He then went on to respond to her. As our correspondence continued, I found writing to her quite delightful. Our friendship grew at a leisurely pace, making it unique because it wasn’t tied to the trial or the media chaos. Tammi was an individual outside of the madness.
To be quite honest, when I first heard about Erik Menendez and his brothers’ story back in 2005, as detailed in Tammi’s book They Said We’d Never Make It: My Life With Erik Menendez, I must admit that I had my doubts about their abuse defense. In fact, Erik himself had mentioned having a girlfriend of several years to MSNBC, which only added to my skepticism. But as time passed and I delved deeper into the case, my fascination only grew.
1996 saw the unfortunate revelation for Tammi, as she uncovered Chuck’s mistreatment of her daughter from an earlier relationship, who was then a teenager. At that time, they were also parents to a 9-month-old child together.
Chuck turned himself into police and died by suicide two days later, according to People.
In 2005, she shared with the press that following Chuck’s passing, she contacted Erik. He provided solace for her. Over time, their correspondence became more profound.
In August 1997, when Tammi encountered Erik for the first time at Folsom State Prison, she confessed that she was quite anxious or on edge.
She clarified that Erik had never seen her image as all he’d received was a minuscule 1-by-1 picture. Yet, upon entering the room, he radiated such vibrancy that he bounded down the steps. It felt as if she were reuniting with a long-lost acquaintance.
They married in 1999, a Twinkie serving as their wedding cake.
They’ve stayed together since then, but Tammi admits that not having visits from her spouse can sometimes be challenging.
She explained on MSNBC in December 2005 that a common routine for her was to receive a kiss upon arrival and another goodbye kiss, which she found challenging due to its emotional depth, as some people might not fully grasp.
Erik mentioned that he made an effort to avoid contemplating the possibility that his imprisonment might be permanent.
He shared with People magazine in 2005 that Tammi is his source of strength. “I find it hard to contemplate the phrase,” he admitted. “When I try, I feel a deep sadness and a raw fear that sends chills down my spine. It’s something I still struggle to accept.
However, on a brighter side, Tammi had not only guided him in being a good spouse, Erik shared. Instead of resorting to ‘makeup’ intimacy, it’s just a quick fifteen-minute conversation, he emphasized, implying that one truly needs to invest effort into maintaining the relationship.
