M. Night Shyamalan's Sixth Sense and Signs Coming to 4K for the First Time

As a die-hard fan who has watched M. Night Shyamalan’s masterpieces countless times, this news about the 4K restorations of “Signs” and “The Sixth Sense” feels like Christmas come early! With their stunning visuals and immersive soundtracks in High Dynamic Range, I can hardly wait to relive these spine-tingling experiences once more.

This year, two timeless masterpieces by M. Night Shyamalan will be upgraded to 4K quality. Not long after the premiere of his new movie, “Trap,” the esteemed director will witness two highly-acclaimed films from his collection receiving stunning High Dynamic Range restorations. Earlier this week, Disney revealed that the 4K versions for “Signs” and “The Sixth Sense” are scheduled for release this autumn, with a digital on-demand date set ahead of the physical releases by a couple of months.

On August 27th, the updated 4K versions of both movies will become available for purchase on video-on-demand services. You can buy each movie separately, or opt for a new collection that also includes the 4K version of M. Night Shyamalan’s “Unbreakable”. The physical 4K copies of “The Sixth Sense” and “Signs” will be sold starting October 22nd.

Once the physical copies are up for pre-sale, you can find “Signs” here, and “The Sixth Sense” can be found over here.

In simple terms, both films have been enhanced with High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology using their original negative film sources, along with immersive 5.1 Dolby soundtracks. The physical releases come packaged with a 4K Ultra HD disc, a Blu-ray, and a digital version for online viewing.

One frustrating element, however, is that the initial press release didn’t mention any sort of special features for either release. Both will surely have some element of bonus features available, but they aren’t known at this time.

25 years since its initial release in 1999, “The Sixth Sense” will be commemorating its anniversary in 2024. It left audiences spellbound with its unexpected twist that continues to spark conversations even now. Three years after that, in 2002, M. Night Shyamalan’s another blockbuster hit, “Signs”, saw the light of day.

New From Shyamalan

In Shyamalan’s newest release, “Trap,” the storyline deviates slightly from his usual style. Although the plot is filled with unexpected twists, the revelation of the culprit was shown in the initial trailer itself, leaving viewers to follow the story while being aware of the identity of the killer all along.

In an exclusive conversation with ComicBook before the movie’s summer premiere, M. Night Shyamalan discussed the significant transformation in “Trap.”

Shyamalan expressed that the captivating and intriguing aspect of the movie “Trap” lies in its main character, as the narrative unfolds from his point of view. He was drawn to this project because it offers a unique perspective: we have seen numerous tales about serial killers, but presenting the story as if you are him, revealing what it’s like to live that life on the day when one might be caught is something fresh and exciting.
