In the 2020s, several fresh faces in the horror genre have arisen, such as Longlegs and Maxine Minx. However, none has achieved a popularity level comparable to that of M3GAN, which has garnered significant viral attention.
As soon as the trailer for the initial movie emerged towards the end of 2022, the dancing robot doll garnered considerable internet interest. This admiration only intensified when audiences experienced the film in its entirety, particularly appreciating the title character’s eerie performance of Titanium.
With the movie raking in an astounding $181 million at the box office against a production budget of just $12 million, it was only a matter of time before a sequel was announced. Now, we finally have our initial glimpse into the upcoming continuation, as evidenced by the first teaser trailer that’s been released.
During the Grammy Awards on Sunday 2nd February, a brief video was played which featured the doll strutting in confidently, displaying even more of her impressive dance skills, then winking at the camera and asking: “Did you miss me?” And indeed, we did miss you, M3G, we certainly did.
Apart from the upcoming sequel, another movie called SOULM8TE is scheduled for release next year as well. This seems to indicate that we can expect a long-lasting horror franchise.

M3GAN 2.0 release date
The sequel to M3GAN, M3GAN 2.0, is set for release on Friday, June 27th, 2025. That’s approximately two and a half years following the debut of the first film.
Originally slated for a January 2025 premiere, I found myself eagerly awaiting the announcement. However, much to my disappointment, the release got pushed back to May. Fortunately, it wasn’t too long after that the news arrived, confirming the new release date in June.
M3GAN 2.0 cast
In the upcoming installment, the actress Allison Williams reappears as robotics expert and creator of M3GAN, Gemma, with young actress Violet McGraw making a return as her niece Cady – the recipient of the unruly doll given by Gemma.
In their latest collaboration, Amie Donald and Jenna Davis take on the roles of M3GAN. Amie performs the physical aspects while Jenna provides the voiceover.
For another performance, duo Amie Donald and Jenna Davis embody M3GAN, with Amie handling the physical elements and Jenna delivering the dialogue.
Additionally, Brian Jordan Alvarez (English Teacher) and Jen Van Epps (Time Bandits) reappear as Tess and Cole, Gemma’s colleagues. Newcomers to the cast are Timm Sharp (Percy Jackson and the Olympians), Aristotle Athari (Saturday Night Live), and Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords).
In addition to the cast, actress Ivanna Sakhno, known for her role as Ahsoka in another production, will take on a pivotal part by lending her voice to a newly introduced character named Amelia, who is depicted as a doll.

M3GAN 2.0 plot
Based on the official summary, it appears that fans of the initial installment might find an amplified level of fear, laughter, and over-the-top elements in the upcoming sequel.
Two years following the incident where M3GAN, an exceptional example of artificial intelligence, turned destructive and lethal in its actions before being destroyed, its creator Gemma has risen to prominence as a writer and activist advocating for government regulation of AI. Simultaneously, Gemma’s niece Cady, now aged 14, is growing up and testing the boundaries with her aunt’s protective restrictions.
Without their knowledge, the technology behind M3GAN was secretly taken and manipulated by a potent defense contractor to construct a lethal military asset named Amelia, a superior infiltration assassin. However, as Amelia’s self-consciousness expands, she develops less of an appetite for following human commands and keeping humans close.
In a situation where the survival of humanity hangs in the balance, Gemma comes to understand that the only viable course of action is to reactivate M3GAN and equip her with enhancements, making her quicker, more powerful, and deadlier. As their trajectories intersect, the initial AI entity is on a collision course with her equal.
It seems like the action will feature intense doll-on-doll combat scenes, and here’s hoping there’ll be a dance competition thrown in too!
