Macklemore was the target of a scary situation.
On the morning of June 8, the Seattle residence of the artist known for “Can’t Hold Us” was indeed invaded and burglarized, according to confirmation from the Seattle Police Department to NBC News.
It’s not clear if Macklemore (whose real name is Benjamin Haggerty) was home during the burglary, as he has children—Sloane, 10, Colette, 7, and Hugo, 3—with his wife Tricia Davis. However, officials did confirm that all three kids were there, along with a woman who encountered two men wielding bear spray.
TopMob News has contacted both the police department and representatives of Macklemore, however, we have yet to receive a response.
According to a police report, the family’s nanny claimed that two men broke into the house through a patio door around midnight. She described one of the suspects as the taller one and the other as the shorter one. The taller man then supposedly told his companion to ‘spray her’, which he did promptly using what was later identified as bear mace.
Following the spray, the woman claimed that a larger man shouted, “Where are the treasures, lady?”, while another individual, for an inexplicable reason, assisted her in wiping some pepper spray from her face before helping her rise and guide her towards the kitchen.
According to the police report, as instructed by the men’s spoken directions, the woman guided them to the second-floor master bedroom. There, they removed clothing, jewelry, and shoes from the wardrobe. However, when the taller man felt uneasy about her seemingly restless body language, he claimed that his associate pushed her to the floor. While on the ground, he placed a boot on her ankle before shifting it to the back of her neck and taking her phone.
As she started shouting, it is claimed that they lifted her from the ground, pressed her against a wall, and kept her mouth closed with force until she bit one of them.
Subsequently, the woman managed to escape by dashing through the bathroom and exiting the house. Upon knocking at several nearby houses, one resident eventually let her in, allowing her to make a call to the police.
As stated in the official report, the house was later found to be empty of any suspicious individuals following a search. The three children inside were successfully rescued – there was still a faint smell of bear spray hanging in the house’s atmosphere.
