Recently, Jon Hamm has been shining brightly, hasn’t he? The actor from “Mad Men” is currently thriving with his new AppleTV+ series titled “Your Friends and Neighbors,” and he also plays a detective in an upcoming Audible Original. With his latest projects dominating our TV screens and audio playlists, Hamm is now preparing to return to the silver screen as well, in a new movie that will bring him together with writer/actor/director David Wain once more. This film is so daringly original that it’s being referred to as “off-the-rails,” and producer Anthony Bregman claims it made him laugh even harder than when he first read “Wet Hot American Summer” (a movie co-written by Wain).

According to Variety’s latest report, the upcoming film will feature Zoey Deutch and Ken Marino, a longtime collaborator of director Wain. The cast also includes Sabrina Impacciatore (from The White Lotus Season 2), Ben Wang, and Miles Gutierrez-Riley. In an exciting reunion, Hamm and his Mad Men co-star John Slattery (Roger Sterling) will be joining the film’s cast. Previously, they had collaborated on Slattery’s Maggie Moore(s), which Hamm directed in 2023. The movie is set against the glitzy backdrop of the entertainment industry, with Deutch portraying Gail Daughtry, a Midwestern bride-to-be who finds herself in a predicament when her fiancé exploits his celebrity privileges. As their relationship crumbles, Gail embarks on an adventure across Hollywood to restore balance, as suggested by Variety’s synopsis.

Producer Bregman released a statement about his own excitement for the project, saying:

For over two decades, I’ve been thrilled about collaborating with David, a feeling ignited when I encountered what seemed like the most hilarious script in existence: ‘Wet Hot American Summer.’ Now, having moved through the years, I find myself equally delighted to be working alongside him and Ken on the one piece that has ever made me laugh until I cried.

Wain and Marino Have A History of Comedic Collaboration

David Wain enjoys working with his friends, which is why he’s managed to maintain strong relationships with his peers from the comedy group The State throughout the years. Notably, The State comprises of Kevin Allison, Michael Ian Black, Robert Ben Garant, Todd Holoubek, Michael Patrick Jann, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Thomas Lennon, Joe Lo Truglio, Ken Marino, Michael Showalter, and David Wain himself. Besides their work together in this NYU-originated comedy group that later became an MTV sketch show, Marino and Wain have previously teamed up on projects such as “Wanderlust,” “Childrens Hospital,” and “Role Models.

As Wain put it to IndieWire a few years ago when speaking about his collaborators:
