Approaching the midpoint of the year, it seems likely that Electronic Arts (EA) is gearing up to reveal their new slate of sports games for the year 2025. However, ahead of any official announcements, billbil-kun from Dealabs has leaked information suggesting that EA Sports’ Madden NFL 26 will be available in stores on August 14.
Simultaneously with the commencement of the NFL Preseason, the game is set to launch, and a special edition of it, titled the Deluxe Edition, is also expected. This version will grant early access to players for three days prior. Additionally, EA Play members are privileged to enjoy a 10-hour trial of Madden NFL 26, beginning from August 11 onward.
As per the report, Electronic Arts (EA) is expected to unveil details about NFL Madden 26 this week, possibly including whether the game will also be available for the Nintendo Switch 2 along with its launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
As a gamer, I’ve noticed that the timing and details of these new releases usually align well with the franchise’s past patterns. For example, last year’s Madden NFL 25 dropped in August, much like this year’s version, and featured Christian McCaffrey from the San Francisco 49ers on its cover.
Regarding games for the upcoming Switch 2, EA has confirmed that both EA Sports FC and Madden NFL will eventually be playable on the new console. In a recent statement, the company mentioned that the Switch 2 versions of these games will include all the features the console is capable of supporting.
For Electronic Arts (EA), providing equal features across their sports games for home consoles and the Nintendo Switch platform would mark a significant shift, given their past practice of offering less-featured versions of their sports titles on the initial Nintendo Switch release.
In their announcement, the company mentioned they’ll provide additional information about the Madden NFL and FC experiences on the Switch 2 at a future time. They strive to offer a uniform player experience across platforms, as long as the hardware permits. While they were not clear on cross-platform multiplayer, they did mention that the sports games for the Switch 2 will be tailored specifically for this new console.
If you’re eagerly awaiting the next big update for the Madden NFL series, why not take a peek at our review of Madden NFL 25 in the interim?
