Madison shared this in an interview with Cosmopolitan on April 29.

Due to the uncertain approach of her management team, which at that time included Scooter Braun, Life Support found it challenging to market Madison as an emerging artist. This lack of effective promotion negatively impacted her ability to create music. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for Madison’s career to face difficulties, and just under four years after she joined Island Records, the label chose to let her go. Shortly afterward, Scooter also ended his association with her.

Madison reminisced about the sudden turn of events, stating, “In a span of 12 hours, everything in my life vanished. I was only 16 when my label essentially said, ‘Best of luck.’ And I responded, ‘You’ve taken away years of my adolescence that I can never reclaim. Now you’re just telling me to have fun and wishing me luck?’

In the given moment, Madison expressed that she felt like a monetary symbol and believed her previous record label was hasty in signing a 12-year-old without considering the potential damage to her self-worth. Despite this setback, she continued to press on as an independent artist until 2019, when she partnered with Epic Records.

Although there are whispers that she parted ways with her record label earlier this year, the pop sensation is fully invested in her most significant endeavor: personal growth.

The author of “Half of It” emphasized that they value their life and mental health over their career. They expressed pride in their current state and made it clear that they don’t rely solely on their career for self-worth.

On previous occasions, Madison has openly discussed her disappointing experiences within the industry, sharing that she often felt stifled or ignored by older male figures when trying to advance her own career.

In an interview with NME in February 2021, she shared her past experiences of feeling unheard in most places she visited. People would often dismiss her ideas by saying things like “Oh, sweetheart, we know more than you—you don’t understand.” This didn’t sit well with her at all. Now, having been in the industry for nearly a decade and believing that her voice carries weight, she feels it’s time for her opinions to be acknowledged.
