As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I can confidently say that the addition of Mafia: Definitive Edition to Xbox Game Pass is a welcome one! Having dabbled in the original back in 2002, I’m thrilled to revisit the game with its modern makeover. The remake seems to have preserved the essence of the original while giving it a fresh, polished look.
As July draws to a close, the contours of August are becoming clearer for Xbox Game Pass subscribers. Earlier this week, whispers started swirling, and now it’s official: “Mafia: Definitive Edition” will join the service on August 13th. This game is set to be available on PC, cloud, and console platforms, making it playable on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Although Xbox hasn’t disclosed the entire lineup for the month yet, they did announce this new addition via a tweet on their official Game Pass account.
Introduced in the year 2020, “Mafia: Definitive Edition” represents a revamped version of a game initially launched in 2002. This updated edition boasts numerous enhancements compared to its predecessor, such as contemporary graphics, an entirely new soundtrack, and a significantly revised map layout. Despite these changes, it largely preserves the original narrative, focusing on Tommy Angelo, a low-level criminal who ascends through the Salieri crime family’s ranks. For those who missed out on the 2002 release, “Mafia: Definitive Edition” appears to offer the optimal way to immerse oneself in the game’s offerings!
Beyond “Mafia: Definitive Edition,” the only Xbox Game Pass addition officially confirmed for August is “Core Keeper,” set to launch on August 27th. Usually, Xbox reveals games planned for the first fortnight at the start of the month, followed by another batch in the middle, so we can expect an announcement soon. There’s been speculation that “Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy” might join the service on August 8th, but nothing has been verified yet. The initial rumor comes from eXtas1s, who also leaked “Mafia: Definitive Edition” for the service, suggesting it’s likely that we’ll hear about the Crash Bandicoot game in the first half of August.
For Xbox Game Pass subscribers in July, there was plenty to look forward to, with the first Call of Duty game being offered. It’s challenging to surpass such an exciting announcement, but starting off with Mafia: Definitive Edition appears to be a promising move!
