Since the launch of “Mafia III” in 2016, Hanger 13 has reworked the original “Mafia” game into “Mafia: Definitive Edition” and enhanced “Mafia II.” After almost a decade without a fresh installment, Hanger 13 is diving back into Mafia territory, but this time they’re venturing into prequel territory instead of sequel.
I was thrilled as I witnessed the closing of Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, where a tantalizing teaser for “Mafia: The Old Country” was revealed! The brief trailer didn’t show any gameplay footage but subtly confirmed that the game is set in 1900s Sicily. This setting aligns with earlier leaks suggesting that the fourth mainline Mafia game would serve as a prequel to its predecessors. Excitingly, Hangar 13, the studio behind the project, had already hinted in 2022 that they were working on a new Mafia title, but have remained tight-lipped about the specifics of their upcoming project.
