Over the past few weeks, there has been a flurry of release date announcements, and the most recent one concerns the highly-anticipated game, Mafia: The Old Country, which has now officially confirmed its launch date.
Created by Hangar 13, this game serves as a sort of prequel within the well-known Mafia series, set in Sicily during the early 20th century.
Enthusiasts of the show have long been anticipating updates about the game’s launch, but their patience is now rewarded with the arrival of the latest “Whatever it Takes” gameplay trailer, finally quenching their thirst for news.
Mafia: The Old Country will release on 8th August 2025.
Prior to this announcement, it was widely known among fans of the game that the official release date had not yet been confirmed. However, it was like an open secret within the community.
A mistakenly published post on the game’s Steam blog noted an 8th August release date.
Quickly removing the post, it didn’t take long before passionate followers managed to snap screenshots, swiftly spreading these captures across various social media platforms in a matter of minutes.
Though the expected launch date may be known to some, there’s lots of fresh gaming action shown in the video that merits attention.
The game focuses on Enzo Favara and his bid to prove himself to the local Cosa Nostra mob.
Due to its 1930s backdrop and seamless transitions between countryside villages, opulent estates, and ancient Roman sites, the trailer evokes a strong sense of adventure reminiscent of Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.
Besides displaying the gameplay, the trailer also verified that it can be pre-ordered ahead of time on PC through Steam, and for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S as well.
Currently, August’s gaming scene is relatively light, with just a few notable games set to be released. The most significant among them is the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, which is scheduled towards the end of the month.
Since it’s been quite some time since “The Old Country” (released in 2020 after “Mafia: Definitive Edition) has been the last Mafia game, and since this is the first entirely new Mafia title since 2016’s “Mafia 3”, anticipation for the game is naturally high. Fans are eagerly waiting to play it when it releases in August.
