As a seasoned Magic: The Gathering player with over a decade of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel excited about the upcoming Bloomburrow collection. The all-animal plane is a fresh take on the game that I’ve come to love, and the recent reveals of Kitsa, Otterball Elite, and Valley Mightcrawler have only fueled my anticipation further.
Magic: The Gathering has been previewing the upcoming Bloomtender plane, which is animal-themed and will be part of the Bloomburrow collection releasing next month. The last few days, specifically since July 9th, have primarily focused on revealing the actual cards, allowing players to get a first look at the creatures they’ll encounter in this unique realm. With its novel animal-only realm, the Bloomburrow collection has already generated significant interest among Magic: The Gathering enthusiasts.
In this new fascinating world, Bloomburrow introduces a charming collection of cards showcasing its adorable inhabitants. ComicBook has the exclusive scoop on two of these creatures that will be included in the Bloomburrow decks, with distinct artwork for each one presented.
Kitsa, Otterball Elite
The first of these creatures is Kitsa, Otterball Elite. Kitsa is a Legendary Creature and an Otter Wizard with Vigilance. On the left is a card featuring artwork by Zoltan Boros, while the right was designed by David Petersen. Kitsa’s cards note:
- Prowess (Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, this creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn.)
- Draw a card, then discard a card.
- Copy target instant or sorcery spell you control. You may choose new targets for the copy. Activate only if Kitsa’s power is 3 or greater.
Valley Mightcrawler
The next exclusive creature is Valley Mighcrawler, a Frog Warrior. Per Frog Warrior’s cards, whenever another Frog, Rabbit, Raccoon, or Squirrel you control enters, put a +1/+1 counter on Valley Mightcaller. Artwork for these two cards is by Matt Stewart (left) and Justine Mara Andersen (right), with each card featuring its own quote as well:
- “Creatures of all kinds united to patrol the outskirts.” – Wake of the Beasts
- “There is no path to the Root Maze’s center. Bard, sing a song while I create one.”
At the end of June, it was unveiled that Bloomburrow’s unique aircraft is home to thrilling experiences for the brave and curious, no matter their size. For those preferring a calmer existence, serenity can be found. However, tranquility in Valley is under threat as the natural balance is disrupted, putting the lives of its inhabitants at risk from Calamity Beasts and the Great-Night Owl. In response, the animal residents must unite to protect their homes. Mabel, a mother mouse and unwilling hero, will lead a group on an expedition to discover what has happened in a nearby town.
