Magic: The Gathering Reveals Five Secret Lairs – Astarion’s Thirst Cards

The upcoming Dungeons & Dragons 50th Anniversary Superdrop, particularly Astarion’s Thirst – Secret Lair, is an absolute masterstroke.

At GenCon this month, Wizards of the Coast unveiled details about a forthcoming release for Dungeons & Dragons’ 50th Anniversary Superdrop. This exciting event will mark five decades of the cherished franchise with five Secret Lair drops, available starting August 27th, as long as supplies last. Initially, Wizards of the Coast kept most of the contents a secret for these Magic: The Gathering drops, but they have now disclosed all five cards from one of the most anticipated sets – Astarion’s Thirst. Given the high demand and popularity, this set was expected to sell out quickly, and now the chances of obtaining it have diminished even further. Each card in this set showcases breathtaking artwork and iconic quotes from a beloved character in Baldur’s Gate 3 – Astarion.

The cards for Magic: The Gathering – Astarion’s Thirst Secret Lair include:

Anguished Unmaking

  • Instant
  • Exile target nonland permnanent. You lose 3 life.
  • “I don’t know. I’m sure a vampire spawn could still rip out your throat.”
  • Features Astarion attacking Gandrel in the artwork.

Astarion, the Decadent

  • Legendary Creature, Vampire Elf Rogue
  • Deathtouch, lifelink: At the beginning of your end step, choose one –
    o Feed – Target opponent loses life equal to the amount of life they lost this turn.
    o Friends – You gain life equal to the amount of life you gained this turn.
  • “Keep your distance, darling.”

Exquisite Blood

  • Enchantment
  • Whenever an oponent loses life, you gain that much life.
  • “Let’s make ourselves comfortable, shall we?”

Mortify

  • Instant
  • Destroy target creature or enchantment.
  • “Can you feel death’s cold grip?”
  • Artwork features Astarion conquering a piece of his past, Godey.

Sanguine Bond

  • Enchantment
  • Whenever you gain life, target opponent loses that much life.
  • “Careful, I bite.”
  • Features Wyll Ravengard as Astarion’s juice box.

Among the five Secret Lair releases scheduled for August 27th, Astarion’s Thirst is just one of them. Each drop will be sold for $29.99 individually, and there are foil versions of the same cards available for a price of $39.99 each as well.

Besides Astarion, Wizards of the Coast revealed a card for Karlach during their initial announcement at Gen Con. It’s yet uncertain whether she’ll receive a complete set of her own or if this card is just part of a shared set with other characters.
