Magic: Gathering, the popular card game, has teamed up with various universes in its Universes Beyond collection, creating cards inspired by well-loved fandoms such as Stranger Things, Fortnite, Dungeons & Dragons, and The Lord of the Rings. Now, Wizards of the Coast has provided a closer look at their newest collaboration – the long-awaited Final Fantasy set for the card game. A first-look video showcases beautiful artwork from various cards that will be available with the full release this summer, sparking excitement among fans about this upcoming collectible crossover.
Wizards of the Coast shared a sneak peek of their upcoming “Final Fantasy” collection towards the end of last year, and now they’re preparing to disclose additional details. The highly-anticipated collaboration between “Final Fantasy” and “Magic: The Gathering” is set to launch on June 13th, and it’s time for a first glimpse to excite fans about the upcoming release. In a freshly released video, the team behind “Magic: The Gathering” offers an in-depth examination of what players can anticipate from this new set, including novel mechanics, artwork on the cards, and other exciting features.
As a passionate Final Fantasy fan and gamer, I can’t contain my excitement upon discovering that the upcoming set will feature four Commander Decks, each one graced by familiar faces such as Terra, Cloud, Titus, and Y’shtola. The sneak peek also showcases stunning card renditions of legendary Final Fantasy monsters, like the colossal Cactuar and Sin, Spira’s Punishment. And let’s not forget the inclusion of a few delightful Moogle and Chocobo cards, as no Final Fantasy set would be complete without them! However, the video only hints at what’s to come; I can hardly wait to see these characters in action when their cards are finally released.
Magic: The Gathering x Final Fantasy Set to Bring Back Double-Faced Cards
The “Final Fantasy” collection is not just about stunning artwork from this cherished series; it’s also essential to remember a few points. To begin with, the comeback of double-faced cards! These cards symbolize the potential for certain creatures and characters to metamorphose into alternative forms when specific conditions are met. This returning gameplay aspect enables the set to accurately depict the adventures from popular “Final Fantasy” games, as characters, minigames, and more can undergo transformations. For example, Cecil’s storyline from “Final Fantasy IV” is portrayed in his card collection, and you can even go fishing to set up a campsite.
The Universe Beyond set’s latest release introduces a fresh breed of creatures that players can invoke. These novel cards are named Saga Creatures, serving as reinforcements during combat. Notably, iconic figures like Shiva from Final Fantasy X fall under this category. By integrating elements of both Saga and Creature cards, these versatile cards significantly enhance your battle tactics.
Apart from what’s already shown, the new Magic crossover deck also boasts some thrilling hidden mechanics. Wizards of the Coast hints at a few more intriguing secrets yet to be disclosed. We can only hope for more insights as we get closer to the release date on June 13th.
