Characters from each main series game will be represented in card form, promising a captivating experience for both veteran players and beginners when the set launches on June 13th, showcasing unique abilities and strengths.
This gathering is undeniably tailored for enthusiasts, as Wizards of the Coast keeps unveiling exciting previews towards the upcoming grand release. At PAX East today, Magic: The Gathering players were given another sneak peek at some of the Final Fantasy cards set to debut next month, with illustrations of these cards displayed in the images provided below.
In this game titled “Magic: The Gathering – Final Fantasy”, you’ll witness an unprecedented assembly of Final Fantasy artworks, a testament to the vast quantity produced over the years. The artwork for the cards has been elevated significantly by the Magic artists, reimagining iconic Final Fantasy pieces in updated, refined designs. This compilation boasts more than 100 legendary creature cards throughout the game, each highlighting characters, memorable moments, and stories. Notably, Cid, Timeless Artificer, has a total of 15 unique illustrations!
A portion of this Final Fantasy collection features the Through the Ages series, where classic Magic cards get a Final Fantasy makeover to mark this extraordinary partnership. These borderless cards serve as an additional sheet for the set, highlighting distinguished artists like Yoshitaka Amano and Tetsuya Nomura, both widely recognized by fans of the Final Fantasy franchise.
In this collection, players will discover mechanics that surpass their expectations and revolutionize Magic gameplay, drawing inspiration from the universe of Final Fantasy, complete with its rich lore and unique inhabitants. Six distinctive aspects encompass mechanisms such as Job Selection, empowering users to generate hero tokens which can subsequently be outfitted with equipment cards. Moreover, for the first time in Magic: The Gathering, Saga Creatures are being introduced as allies on the battlefield. Excitingly, Bahamut is one of them!
In this upcoming collection, we see the comeback of thrilling expeditions, land-based cycling games, and dual-sided playing cards, all with improved capabilities. Wizards of the Coast has given us a comprehensive preview of the mechanics involved to help players prepare well in advance for the launch.
Magic: The Gathering is set to launch a special edition titled “Magic: The Gathering – Final Fantasy,” featuring four customized Commander decks that showcase iconic tales and milestones from the Final Fantasy series. With an extensive library of games to choose from, the Commander decks will focus primarily on “Final Fantasy 6,” “Final Fantasy 7,” “Final Fantasy 10,” and “Final Fantasy 14.
To maintain excitement, it’s been announced that three Secret Lair releases will be coming out together with this collection. Though details about these exclusive drops are yet to be revealed, preorders for these products have already begun at local game shops, online marketplaces, and other locations where Magic: The Gathering items are sold, as well as through MTG Arena. The preorder options include Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, Commander decks, Collectors’ Edition Commander decks, Bundles, and Gift Edition Bundles.
