Mai Shiranui is headed to Street Fighter 6 with a new gameplay reveal — here’s when you can play her

One of the biggest crossovers in fighting game history is on the way.

It’s been confirmed for some time that Mai Shiranui will join Street Fighter 6. On Monday, Capcom unveiled her gameplay for the first time, demonstrating how one of the most famous characters from the Fatal Fury series is being adapted into the Street Fighter universe.

Take a look at the video showcasing Mai’s intense gameplay further down, where you’ll see her debuting not just one but two launch costumes, along with her explosive maneuvers.

Armed with her supporters and kicks that could leave Chun-Li awestruck, Mai adds a refreshing twist to the current roster of combatants. Let me share with you some key skills attributed to Mai by Capcom:

1. Agile movement – her nimbleness allows her to evade opponents’ attacks and quickly close in for a strike.
2. Strong kicks – she employs powerful kicks that can knock opponents off balance or stun them, giving her the opportunity to follow up with additional attacks.
3. Energy balls – Mai can charge energy into her fists, which she then unleashes as a projectile attack, capable of dealing significant damage.
4. Special moves – her unique abilities include a rapid-fire kick series and a powerful uppercut that sends opponents flying.
5. Health regeneration – during the course of a fight, Mai can regenerate some of her lost health by performing certain combos or special moves.

  • Kachousen: Mai throws her fan like a fireball. When used normally, the fan loses to other projectiles and your opponent’s strikes can knock them down. But when you hold down the input, they can no longer be neutralized by strikes. In addition, if the fan hits an opponent, it will pop up and fall down on them for another hit.
  • Ryuuenbu: Spin forward in a fiery blaze for combos or to control space.
  • Hissatsu Shinobi Bachi: Perform a cartwheel and fly towards opponents to elbow them. The OD version sends Mai into the air to follow up on the attack or to surprise opponents below.
  • Hishou Ryuuenjin: Mai’s dragon punch, which works as an effective anti-air as she delivers a flying upwards kick bathed in flame.
  • Kagerou no Mai: Mai’s Level 1 Super Art, she sets the immediate vicinity on fire, which can be useful as an anti-air move or combo ender. The move also gives Mai five Flame Stocks which give all of Mai’s special moves and Level 1 and 2 Super Arts special properties.
  • Chou Hissatsu Shinobi Bachi: Mai’s Level 2 Super Art where she rushes forward in a blaze of glory that can get around projectiles.
  • Shiranui Ryuu: Enbu Ada Zakura: Mai’s Level 3 Super Art, she flies like a butterfly and stings like a bee in a series of elegant fan strikes.

I’m thrilled to share that we won’t have to wait too long before getting a chance to explore Mai’s moveset up close. She’s set to debut in Street Fighter 6 on February 5, 2025. This arrival will necessitate an update in my ranking of all the characters in Street Fighter 6, as I aim to reflect each character’s unique strengths accurately.

Mai is part of both the Year 2 Character Package and the Ultimate Package, providing entry to M. Bison, Terry, and the forthcoming figure, Elena, as well.

Over the past few years, I’ve been deeply engrossed in Street Fighter 6, starting at its release and continuing up until a few months ago. Now, it feels like the perfect moment to jump back into the game and sharpen my skills. Street Fighter 6 was highly praised upon its debut, and an impressive 4 million copies have been sold thus far. As for the future, Capcom is poised for a powerful February, not only with the arrival of Mai, but also the upcoming launch of Monster Hunter Wilds.

At the moment, you can play Street Fighter 6 on Xbox Series X|S, Windows computers through Steam, PlayStation 5, and even on PlayStation 4.
