The trailer for “Predator: Badlands” has been released, and as fans immerse themselves in the plot and action, they might have overlooked an important nod to the Alien series. In one part of the sneak peek, a character named Thia, played by Elle Fanning, is shown to be a synthetic from Weyland-Yutani Corporation. A fleeting scene showcases the company’s logo, which appears when Thia’s eyes roll back in her head. This logo is identical to that of Andy, the synthetic who played a significant role in the previous summer’s “Alien: Romulus.
In the space provided, you’ll notice that Thia and Andy both share a unique “W” mark on their eyes.
Since 1990, the Alien and Predator series have shared a common universe. In “Predator 2,” a xenomorph skull was shown in the Predator’s trophy room, hinting at this interconnection. This subtle reference led to two Alien vs. Predator movies being produced in the mid-2000s. Despite mixed reviews, there remains interest among filmmakers for more installments. Recently, Fede Álvarez proposed a joint direction of an Alien vs. Predator film with Dan Trachtenberg.
As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the new Predator installment, titled “Predator: Badlands,” is set to grace our cinemas in November. The talented director Dan Trachtenberg, who masterfully guided us through the gripping world of Prey, will once again take the helm. What makes this film unique within the franchise is its focus on a Predator outcast as the main character, offering a fresh perspective on the series. Interestingly, 2021 will see not one but two Predator movies hitting the screens. Following the animated film “Predator: Killer of Killers,” also directed by Trachtenberg, this action-packed sequel is sure to keep us on the edge of our seats!
In the film “Alien: Romulus,” Álvarez subtly referenced the Predator franchise, but the connection in “Predator: Badlands” is more overt. This could hint at Disney planning a new Alien vs. Predator movie, though it hasn’t been officially confirmed yet. Both Alien and Predator properties have seen a resurgence lately, with “Prey” being a big hit on Hulu and “Romulus” leading to a sequel. The studio might be considering a full-fledged crossover, hoping for better results this time around. It’ll be intriguing to see if there are any more Alien references in “Badlands.
Badlands” promises to deliver intricate world-building and mythology expansion, further enriching the lore of two renowned science fiction franchises.
