Major WWE Dream Match Confirmed in Controversial Location

Following the exciting finish at WWE’s Money in the Bank event, viewers were eagerly waiting to find out John Cena’s next step. Swiftly answering their queries, Cena kicked off tonight’s episode of Monday Night Raw, scolding the audience for trying to bring back R-Truth (formerly known as Ron Killings) to the company. As Cena goaded them about knocking down everyone they had previously cheered for, he was met by CM Punk, leading to the announcement of an anticipated match between these two wrestling giants. However, not all fans are delighted about where this highly-anticipated showdown is set to take place.

In a bold move, Punk confronted Cena, criticizing not only his perceived mistreatment of fans and alleged selling-out to The Rock, but also reminding him of the infamous incident where Cena applied the STF on Punk until he collapsed following an attack by Seth Rollins at Elimination Chamber.

Later, Punk stated that although he recognizes the risk of being corrupted by the Title, similar to how it affected Cena, he must transform into a beast to conquer a beast. He added that if even a small part of the man he once was still existed, Cena would agree to his challenge for the Title tonight. However, Cena was up for the contest, but only on his conditions, and definitely not this evening.

When Cena spoke, he made it clear that if Punk aimed to challenge for the Title and the match to take place, he had to accompany Cena to Night of Champions – which essentially meant Punk would need to travel to Saudi Arabia. In essence, Cena passed the responsibility onto Punk, and true to form, Punk agreed, thereby confirming and scheduling the match for Night of Champions.

For multiple significant factors, this rematch between Cena and Punk is highly anticipated by many fans since Punk rejoined the organization. Initially, few would’ve predicted it, given that Cena was portrayed as a villain and Punk as a hero. However, that’s the role dynamic we’re witnessing now.

Regarding the venue, WWE’s shows in Saudi Arabia have become regular occurrences, yet they continue to stir controversy. Earlier reports suggested CM Punk was scheduled for a Saudi event, only to withdraw without explanation. Some wrestlers express reservations about participating in Saudi events, and this was speculated as the reason, but it now appears that Punk will engage in a dream match against John Cena there instead.

The Championship Night is scheduled for June 28th at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marking its resumption following a hiatus last year. The most recent Championship Night in Saudi Arabia occurred in 2023, which represented its comeback after an earlier gap of eight years.

Reflecting on the last time this historic event unfolded, the landscape of battles was strikingly diverse. For the very first time, Seth Rollins clinched the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Meanwhile, Brock Lesnar and Cody Rhodes were locking horns, while Asuka and Bianca Belair were engaged in a fierce battle for the Raw Women’s Championship. In another corner of the ring, Rhea Ripley and Natalya were putting up a formidable fight for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. The complete lineup can be found below.
