This week, Xbox Game Pass welcomed two significant new additions – two highly anticipated day-one games. However, it’s disappointing to note that one of these games is not living up to expectations for subscribers. One of the key advantages of Xbox Game Pass over services like PS Plus lies in the extensive library of games made available at the launch of each title. While PS Plus offers similar benefits, Xbox Game Pass exceeds in this regard. It’s essential to note that these perks are only included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which costs $20 a month. Unfortunately, the value of this perk seems less substantial in June compared to some previous months.
Among the highly anticipated Xbox Game Pass games slated for June 2025 is FBC: Firebreak, unfortunately, which has not been well-received by critics. Launched this week and immediately available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, it currently holds a Metacritic score of 66, far below the standard for major releases, let alone new games from Remedy Entertainment, the esteemed studio known for their recent works such as Alan Wake 2 and Control.
Firebreak: FBC, the game, has been receiving poor critical reception and struggling to build a substantial player base. For instance, on Steam, its maximum number of simultaneous players rarely exceeds 1,992, which is quite small. Granted, it comes free with Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus, but even considering this factor, the player count should be significantly higher.
To sum up, this product’s user review scores are generally low across various platforms. On the Microsoft Store, it receives a 3 out of 5 star rating. On Metacritic, its score is 56 out of 100, and on Steam, it has only managed a 63% approval rating.
Regrettably, for Remedy Entertainment, Microsoft, and Xbox Game Pass subscribers, FBC: Firebreak turned out to be a disappointment all around. This three-person cooperative first-person shooter didn’t exactly hit the ground running, making it difficult to envision a turnaround in its fortunes – especially given that Remedy Entertainment isn’t typically known for providing substantial post-launch support for multiplayer games.
