As reported by the distributor, the anime film “5 Centimeters per Second” is being transformed into a live-action movie, with Studio Spoon handling production. Yoshiyuki Okuyama is directing the project, while Ayako Suzuki is responsible for the script. At present, a complete cast for “5 Centimeters per Second” has not been finalized, but we do know one of its leading actors – Hokuto Matsumura. He will appear in the movie, and fans may recognize him as the voice actor behind Sota from Shinkai’s Suzume.

Interestingly, another film by Makoto Shinkai is slated for a live-action adaptation, thanks to the success of Your Name. In 2017, J.J. Abrams acquired the rights for a live-action adaptation of Your Name, but the project remains in development. Recently, it was announced that Carlos Lopez Estrada will write and direct the film after Marc Webb and Lee Isaac Chung left the project.
