Erik Per Sullivan is living his Ivy league dream.
As a devoted fan, I’m excited to share that the star known for his role in “Malcolm in the Middle” is pursuing a master’s degree at Harvard University, a fact recently disclosed by his TV father, Bryan Cranston, during our chat about the upcoming series revival. In this conversation, he also shared some insights about the progress of his on-screen son’s journey.
Bryan shared with hosts David Spade and Dana Carvey on their “Fly on the Wall” podcast on June 11 that he is indeed attending Harvard University. He’s not just intelligent but exceptionally so, and currently, he’s pursuing his master’s degree there.
According to Bryan, he informed Erik that the project was given the go-ahead. But, the once young star respectfully turned down the opportunity to rejoin it.
Bryan reminisced about speaking with Erik and saying, “‘Hey, the show is coming back!’ he responded excitedly, ‘That’s great!’ I replied, ‘Yes, we’re all eager for your return.’ He said, ‘Oh, I don’t want to participate, but it’s wonderful news.’
In his personal life, Erik, who departed Hollywood in 2010, made it clear to Bryan that he has no interest in going back to the world of television.
Bryan remembered him saying, “Oh dear, I haven’t acted since I was around nine years old,” to which he made it clear, “I’m not interested in it.
In terms of the cast for the remake, each member of the Wilkerson family will be portrayed by their original actors: Frankie Muniz is set to reprise his role as Malcolm, while Justin Berfield and Christopher Masterson are joining him once again as his brothers Francis and Reese. Jane Kaczmarek will also return as Lois, the mother character. The part of Erik will be taken over by actor Caleb Ellsworth-Clark in this new adaptation.
However, the story doesn’t stop there. In this new version of the show, Anthony Timpano will portray Malcolm’s youngest brother Jamie, a character who was first seen as a baby and toddler in the original series. On the other hand, Vaughan Murrae has been cast as the sixth child, a character whose pregnancy with Lois was hinted at during the show’s final episode.
Despite some fresh attendees joining familiar ones, Frankie expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming celebration, which marks the 40th anniversary of his parents’ home and his anticipated return there.
The individual, aged 39, shared with TopMob News in February that Bryan and he first began conversing at a dinner back in 2015. Now, ten years later, twenty-five years since the show’s debut, it’s happening – an event that has me genuinely excited! I believe fans will be equally delighted to witness everyone again and discover the innovative concepts they’ve conceived.
He mentioned, “For me, it was significant as well, since the potential adventures of Malcolm and his family seem limitless. I’ve gone through the scripts, so I’m aware. I believe that the audience will find this quite thrilling.
And while we wait for the revival to premiere, keep reading for more shows hitting TV in 2025…
