The collaboration between Publishers City Connection and Clear River Games, along with developers G.rev and TAKE x OFF, has made the announcement of a revamped version of the vertical-scrolling shoot ’em up game titled Mamorukun ReCurse!. Originally known as Mamorukun Curse!, this updated edition is set to release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam in the year 2025. This global launch will be available worldwide.
At Shooters Fes in April 2024, we received confirmation about the updated release. However, today’s announcement signifies the formal unveiling of the game.

The updated game “Mamorukun ReCurse!” is a revamped version of the beloved arcade shooter “Mamorukun Curse!”, initially created by G.rev for Japanese arcades in 2008 and recently revitalized by TAKE x OFF, the team behind the critically acclaimed “Under Defeat” port this year. The refreshed game now offers a widescreen format, and introduces innovative twin-stick controls alongside the original control method, allowing players to choose their preferred playstyle.
In this vertically-scrolling shoot-’em-up game that’s as adorable as a puppy, players employ Curse Bullets for an engaging experience of risk versus reward. These bullets influence the game’s difficulty level based on the player’s actions. Players can either eliminate smaller enemies and clear obstacles or boost the power of larger enemies, making them tougher to conquer. The bigger the enemy, the greater the points, and players even have the option to self-curse for increased damage received.
Mamorukun ReCurse! is an engaging game that draws upon classic Japanese folklore for its inspiration, offering a kid-friendly experience. In this game, players step into the shoes of Mamoru, who finds himself in the mysterious Netherworld after his sudden demise. The objective is to prevent the Netherworld from being engulfed by darkness. To achieve this, Mamoru teams up with fresh companions and works diligently to close the gateway to the World of Darkness.
Abounding with content, the game Mamorukun ReCurse! offers Story Mode, Arcade Mode, Challenge Courses, multiple character costumes, and a fresh Gallery Mode. Moreover, it includes all previously-released downloadable characters, ensuring players have ample incentives to replay the game repeatedly.
