Caitlin Clark‘s alleged stalker has been arrested.
On January 12, authorities in Indianapolis apprehended Michael Lewis, a resident from Denton, Texas, for sending multiple inappropriate and threatening messages to a WNBA star on X (previously known as Twitter). The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed this information on January 13, as reported by the Indy Star.
A man aged 55 years was accused of stalking, and a report by the Indy Star revealed that his arrest warrant listed at least fifteen instances of messages he was claimed to have sent to Clark, who is only 22 years old.
As a devoted admirer, I find myself regretfully admitting that I was barred from attending matches at Cambridge. However, my ardor remains undiminished, and I may just show up at your home games… is that alright?
If convicted, he faces from one to six years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
According to the source, authorities found Lewis as they traced his internet protocol (IP) address to a hotel near Gainbridge Fieldhouse, which is the venue where the Indiana Fever, the team Clark competes for, frequently hold their games.
As a die-hard Lewis fan from Texas, my heart skipped a beat when I learned about his unusual presence in Indianapolis. It’s not every day a Lone Star State native turns up in Hoosier territory, you know?
TopMob has reached out to Clark and authorities for comment but has not heard back.
After locating him on January 8th, the police first questioned the individual and initially he denied sending the more ominous messages. However, later on, he admitted to having a fictitious relationship with Clark, as reported by the police, who stated that Clark had informed them she had modified her public appearances once she began receiving the troubling messages.
Four days after initially sending those concerning messages, I found myself in the hands of authorities, as stated in the affidavit, due to my persistence in continuing with such correspondence.
Regardless of one’s stature, this incident underscores the fact that online bullying can swiftly escalate into real threats of physical harm,” stated Prosecutor Ryan Mears, as reported by the Indy Star. “It requires great bravery for women to speak up in such situations, which is why many choose not to.
He continued by stating, “By taking such action, she is demonstrating a powerful message that every woman in Indianapolis has the right to live and work free from the fear of sexual assault.
Lewis is expected to make his first appearance in court Jan. 14.
As Clark’s professional basketball journey gains momentum, it occasionally stirs up controversy, a byproduct of his past association with the University of Iowa.
She shared with Time magazine in December that she often comes across as the most contentious individual, but this is not true. The multitude of narratives surrounding her are what give people this impression. In reality, she strives to interact with everyone in a considerate and kind manner, which at times leaves her puzzled.
