As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must admit that the recent developments surrounding Bungie’s Marathon have me intrigued beyond belief! The introduction of playable heroes, or as they’re now being called, Runners, is a fresh twist in the franchise.
For several months, there have been whispers about Bungie’s upcoming game, Marathon, particularly suggesting the introduction of playable characters, or heroes. These suspicions seem to be validated by Director Joe Ziegler in a recent Developer Update, where he referred to these characters as Runners and mentioned that they will have a limited set of abilities.
Two characters portrayed as Runners were unveiled in fresh concept art – they go by Thief and Stealth (working titles). While Thief’s background remains relatively unknown, Ziegler emphasized her intriguing nature, describing her as “hanging back, waiting in a tense silence before she strikes.” This gives the impression of a stealthy assassin. It seems that there are numerous amusing anecdotes associated with this character, as well as some extremely intense moments that significantly impact the game.
Stealth, as their name implies, is primarily focused on stealth-based maneuvers when it comes to Runner roles. They excel at deception and employing tactics that can offer unexpected advantages on the battlefield.” Ziegler acknowledged that it’s currently a bit powerful, but he expects it will be balanced by the time it’s released.
The game titled “Marathon” is currently being worked on and is planned to release on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC platforms. You can add it to your wishlist on the respective storefronts. While there’s no specific launch date yet, Bungie aims to broaden playtesting opportunities next year for their community. Keep an eye out as we will share more details in due course.
