Marathon Might Not Hit its Planned 2025 Launch Target, Sentiment Around it is “Not Great” – Rumour

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen studios rise and fall, games delayed, and dreams deferred. Bungie, once a beacon of hope for the gaming community, is now grappling with its own set of challenges, and it’s hard not to feel a pang of concern.

Bungie, renowned for its work, has faced another round of layoffs affecting 220 employees, leaving many to wonder about the studio’s future. Reports suggest project cancellations, scaled back plans for Destiny 2, internal management issues, and more are causing turbulence within the company. While their upcoming game Marathon, a PvPvE extraction shooter, is scheduled for release in 2025, it appears development may not be progressing as smoothly as initially envisioned.

During a recent conversation on the Friends Per Second podcast by YouTuber SkillUp, Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier (who has reported many of these previously mentioned stories) stated that Marathon is also facing internal issues.

According to Schreier’s reports, the general feeling towards the game “Marathon” has been less than positive for several months now, and many people he’s spoken to express doubts about whether the game will actually be released in 2025 as scheduled.

“Schreier stated that the reason for the project’s delay by a year was clear. He expressed some skepticism among those he’d spoken to about it meeting its current deadline next year, but we’ll have to wait and see. The exact timeline remains uncertain, but it’s expected to be sometime in 2025.”

“The sentiment is not great around it, at least as of a few months ago,” he said.

As a long-time fan of Bungie and their iconic game franchise “Marathon,” I was both surprised and intrigued by the recent news of Christopher Barrett being replaced as the game director by Joe Ziegler, former lead of “Valorant.” Having followed the evolution of these games closely over the years, I have developed a keen interest in the creative direction they take and how it impacts my gaming experience.

Marathon is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
