Marathon Playtests Will Expand Further in 2025, Available to Wishlist Now

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a tinge of nostalgia when it comes to Bungie’s Marathon. The series was a staple of my early gaming years, and its return has been long-awaited. However, the recent developments regarding troubled production and director changes have left me a bit apprehensive.

Discussions about Bungie’s game Marathon have been quite prevalent lately, particularly after news broke about development issues and the departure of director Christopher Barrett. Yet, in a recent Developer Update video, the new director Joe Ziegler shared insights into the project’s current status and future plans.

Concerning the supposed launch year of 2025 for the extraction shooter, Ziegler mentioned that they are broadening the scope of their playtests, aiming to involve a larger number of players at each stage. He also hinted that some major updates could provide chances for more people to participate in the project as it progresses.

Although Ziegler didn’t give an exact timeline for when playtests would start, he mentioned that Marathon can now be added to your wishlist on multiple platforms, which is a great way to stay informed about updates. At present, the Steam and PlayStation Store pages are active, with the Xbox Store expected to join soon.

Instead of a full release next year, Bungie might be planning to expand playtests. This could hint at speculations about them not meeting their 2025 internal goal. Jason Schreier from Bloomberg reported last August that the project’s sentiment isn’t favorable, but its current status is yet unknown. Keep an eye out for further updates in the meantime.
