As a gamer, I’m super excited to share that Bungie’s classic “Marathon”, an action-packed extractor shooter inspired by their ’90s sci-fi trilogy, is finally set to launch! The alpha starts this month, and the anticipation is high, especially regarding its coexistence with “Destiny 2“, another live-service shooter from Bungie. I can’t wait to see if die-hard fans like me will make the leap over to this new adventure.

View Urgent ForecastIn a conversation with GamesRadar+, Director Joe Ziegler acknowledged that they can work on making the game more accessible for newcomers, but there might be certain aspects that they simply cannot change, for complete transparency.
We don’t anticipate Marathon evolving into ‘Destiny 3’. Instead, our aim isn’t to create a new product that overtakes ‘Destiny 2‘. We believe ‘Destiny 2‘ has potential and the team working on it is putting in great effort to understand what players require.
If Destiny is your preferred game and you enjoy many Player vs Player (PvP) sandbox experiences, then you might find Marathon extremely engaging, as it’s similar to other games you play.
Given the resemblance in weapon systems between Bungie’s shooters, Ziegler believes Destiny players might experience an “edge” when playing Marathon. Yet, he also notes that there are enough differences to necessitate learning a new curve as well. On the other hand, if you appreciated Destiny mainly for its PvE (Player vs Environment) and not PvP (Player vs Player), this argument probably won’t sway your opinion.
If you’re a player who doesn’t enjoy Player vs Player (PvP) at all in the game Destiny, it might not be the best choice for you since there will be PvP encounters that happen. At some point, another player may encounter you and attack you.
As a gamer myself, I’d say if you’re all about Player versus Environment (PvE) encounters, “Marathon” might not be your cup of tea. To put it straightforwardly, this game isn’t for everyone. It caters specifically to those who crave intense Player versus Player (PvP) experiences, particularly in open-ended sandbox settings. If that sounds like you, then you’re likely to have a blast with “Marathon”.
In this game, there are certain PvE scenarios involving hostile NPCs that you’ll need to handle promptly. These characters can be quite formidable, according to early impressions. However, it seems that the developers at Bungie are placing equal or even greater emphasis on Player versus Player (PvP) interactions within the game design.
On September 23rd, “Marathon” is set to debut on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. It comes equipped with three maps and six characters known as Runners. To familiarize yourself with the game’s mechanics, you can watch this gameplay overview here. For more insights into upcoming seasons, click here.
