Mariah Carey Speaks Out After Her Mom and Sister Die on the Same Day

As a dedicated follower of Mariah Carey‘s journey, I can’t help but admire her resilience and strength, especially during these challenging times. Losing both her mother and sister within a day must have been an unimaginable blow, yet she has managed to return to work and share her love with fans, showing that even in the face of adversity, she continues to shine.

Mariah Carey knows love takes time to heal.

After the heart-wrenching loss of my beloved mother Patricia Hickey and dear sister Alison Carey on the same day in August, I felt compelled to reach out to my cherished followers with a heartfelt update.

She started her Instagram post on September 8th with ‘Back to work.’ The past few weeks have been challenging, but the outpouring of love and support from everyone means the world to me! Can’t wait to meet my fans in China and Brazil. Sending all my love!

In the video, a woman aged 55 wears a black, corseted dress and performs her track “It’s Like That” with just a piano for company.

Mariah’s post marks as her return to social media just weeks after losing her mother and sister.

Upon their demise, the Grammy award-winner expressed to TopMob News in a statement dated August 26th, “My heart is shattered as I’ve lost my mother over the weekend. Regrettably, on the very same day, my sister also passed away in a tragic turn of events.

She went on to say, “It was a blessing to have spent the last week by my mother’s side before she passed away. I am grateful for all the affection and understanding that everyone has shown me in these difficult circumstances, and I ask for your continued respect for my personal space during this trying time.

Mariah has not shared any additional information about Patricia or Alison’s causes of death.

For quite some time, Mariah Carey, known for her hit “Always Be My Baby,” has been open about the challenging aspects of her relationships with her mother, a Juilliard-trained opera singer and vocal coach, as well as her sister Alison. (It’s also worth mentioning that she has another sister named Morgan.)

In fact, Mariah detailed their history together in her 2020 memoir The Meaning of Mariah.

In many facets of her life, Mariah described her relationship with her mother as complex and filled with contrasting experiences, rather than just straightforward. It’s not simply black-and-white for her; it encompasses a broad spectrum of feelings. As they both shared a passion for music, Mariah reminisced on the good times. However, as she matured, Mariah found herself confronted with jealousy from her mother.

“Having people you love be jealous of you professionally comes with the territory of success,” she wrote, “but when the person is your mother and the jealousy is revealed at such a tender age, it’s particularly painful.”

Mariah, who co-parents twins Monroe and Moroccan (aged 13), with ex-spouse Nick Cannon, has spoken about how early interactions with her own mother demonstrated to her the profound impact of a mother’s unguided words on a child.

She also recalled difficult experiences with Alison while growing up.

Mariah continued by explaining that at the age of 12, her sister gave her Valium, presented a small amount of cocaine on a pinky fingernail, caused severe burns on her skin, and attempted to involve her in a deal with a pimp.

It’s an experience that has never left her. As she wrote, “I am still struggling through that time.”
