If you’re not carefully observing, you might overlook it, but there’s a new look for Donkey Kong that has been introduced. A few dedicated fans spotted this right away, while others missed it because he appears briefly in the background just once. If you pause the scene, however, you’ll see he doesn’t resemble the classic Rare-designed Donkey Kong from the past two decades, as seen in every Mario Kart game. Instead, his design has been updated to resemble how he looked in the arcade games from years ago and in the recent Mario movie. This change is being praised by some old-school Nintendo fans, but others are strongly opposed to it.

One fan appreciates, “His new design for the arcade seems more appealing to me. I’m fond of it,” while another concurs, “I genuinely enjoy this quirky design.
A third fan voices their disapproval, saying, “It seems like a blend of current DK and Mario’s DK, but I can’t stand it.” All I can hope for is that this design might be for a future Donkey Kong game. However, I still don’t like it. It looks quite goofy to me.

It’s worth noting that Donkey Kong seems to be the only character who underwent a significant redesign in this new Mario Kart game. Some characters may appear slightly altered as well, but such changes are not uncommon.
