As one of the initial games for Nintendo Switch 2, “Mario Kart World” has performed exceptionally well since its launch. According to a popular Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, “Mario Kart World” has outperformed the sales of “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,” which was released on the same Switch console back in 2017.
According to VGC’s report, Famitsu stated that approximately 782,566 physical copies of “Mario Kart World” were sold during its first three days on sale. It’s important to note that this number includes copies that came with the “Mario Kart World Switch 2” bundle, but it does not take into account digital sales of the game.
According to user Stealth40k from BlueSky, the sales numbers for
In addition to Mario Kart World, the global success of the Nintendo Switch 2 has been nothing short of phenomenal. In a statement published on their official website, the company’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, disclosed that an impressive 3.5 million units of the Switch 2 were sold worldwide within merely four days of its release.
Building upon the foundation laid by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario Kart World expands the action with a vast world for players to traverse and race across. Yet, producer Kosuke Yabuki clarified earlier this month that the team prefers not to categorize it as an “open-world” game due to some confusion linked to the term.
Yabuki stated that, from their perspective on the development team, they don’t refer to the game world as an “open world.” This is because they believe the term “open world” isn’t precisely defined in its meaning. Despite this, Yabuki emphasized that the Mario Kart World offers a larger space for players to discover. He explained that within this vast world, they have included well-known locations like the Mario Kart Circuit, Bowser Castle, and Choco Mountain as they strive to create a fresh Mario Kart experience.
As the release of Mario Kart World approaches, I can’t help but share some exciting details about the game. The open structure of this new title is a significant departure for the beloved franchise, and it feels like we’re stepping into uncharted territory. Reflecting on the rich history of Mario Kart, I must admit that this change is monumental. However, our goal has always been to preserve the timeless fun that Mario Kart has offered over the years. At its core, the new Mario Kart promises to deliver the classic excitement that fans have come to expect from this cherished series.
Compared to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which sold 284,000 units at its launch, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild had a slightly lower debut with 186,000 units sold. With Pokémon Legends Z-A and Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake slated as holiday games for Switch 2, Japanese fans will enjoy two more beloved franchises immediately upon release.
