Martin Compston: Line of Duty Season 7 Delayed Indefinitely

It appears that although there were earlier announcements about Line of Duty season 7, fans might need to show some restraint and wait for any possible future installments.

Last month, news broke out that the popular BBC series was planning to shoot fresh episodes in the upcoming year since the schedules of the leading cast members – Martin Compston, Vicky McClure, and Adrian Dunbar – coincided.

Currently, Compston mentioned that given their hectic schedules, starting a new season is likely to be delayed, or in other words, still quite some time away.

In conversation with The Sun, Compston shared: “We’re constantly discussing potential plans and timelines. Right now, everyone has their own commitments, which means, unfortunately, any project would be quite far in the future.

The actor disclosed that he had dinner with the series creator, Jed Mercurio, along with Dunbay and McClure prior to Christmas; however, he acknowledged that their meeting was simply a casual get-together.

He added: “Since we’re all tight-knit and eager to ensure the program’s success, we wouldn’t repeat it merely for the sake of repetition. If it were simply a matter of doing it again and again, we likely would have produced three more seasons already.

Our focus is on ensuring the best possible outcome, so any future visits would stem from genuine interest rather than a repetition. It wouldn’t simply be about completing another task; it’d be due to Jed perceiving an intriguing narrative that needs to be explored.

Ever since Line of Duty wrapped up with its season 6 finale last year, there’s been a buzzing anticipation among fans like me about what lies ahead. The show, which first aired in 2021, has left us craving more gripping crime drama. What makes this even more exciting is that the entire cast seems eager to reprise their roles for another round.

Actress Christina Chong hinted earlier that she might return for Season 7, suggesting a possible comeback of character Nicola Rogerson. However, an official confirmation is yet to be made.

Lately, you might have caught Compston on various screens, featuring in the second seasons of both Prime Video’s Fear and The Rig, with news that he will also appear as a special guest in the upcoming second season of ITV’s Red Eye.

Upon being announced for his new position, Compston expressed his excitement, saying, “I’m thrilled to be part of the Red Eye crew now. I look forward to adding to the incredible success of the initial season and providing fans with another exhilarating experience.
